  2. Richard knows what he’s doing & all comments make perfect sense

    1st choice. P47  ( either version or both )

2nd choice  ( sorry guys ) B25 solid nose version but would have mossie as a very very close second

3rd choice (too many so not to up set the apple cart I would go with majority)  probably seafury

all subject to the bank manager releasing funds  aka. The wife

  3. Not that I need another Thunderbolt but 👍can’t have to many jugs or P51,s . For some reason the Macchi doesn’t really do owt for me not that would stop me buying one if it looked right ( well better than the VQ o version )

I do have regrets on missing the yak 9 you did , one on the lines of the fw190 would do me fine but that’s a story for another day

Hey look Andy , I was the same a few years back. Ive always liked engines and have never been without my motorcycles for very long in my life , but as a WW2 fan you are always stuck with the fact that those beautiful little OS52 four strokes dont have the same relative weight as a Daimler Benz 601 or Merlin .

Even less, a 24 cylinder Napier Sabre or 18 cylinder BMW 801 .  Consequently the advent of electric flight has given me the opportunity to take 12 oz of ballast in the form of battery , and move it around to best advantage . I dont know why more designers dont use the battery pack vertically as it seems an obvious way of getting more leverage ahead of the C of G . Maybe I should patent the idea ?😀

For me, the other big advantage with electric is the ability to swing a big multiblade prop . When you see a real Mustang , the prop is huge feature which as I C flyers we just had to swallow .

I use the MR Rc sound system on some of my more elaborate models and It enhances the show performance dramatically .

We wont persuade some people though , so best to leave it at that . But as Chris said , if I have to consider the options of IC conversion , most will then get a lesser design as my potential to get close to outline would be whittled away .

A Sea Fury version certainly would be a possible derivative of this kit . Its mostly the sloping front deck and cowl .

your right in what you say Richard i was just having a playful nudge at Stu as we fly at same club ,

most of my flying has been electric for last few years , i do have some bigger petrol stuff when i get it finished but keep getting side track with smaller electric

its just so clean & handy to transport among other things for me , & your kits have been brilliant over the years

Absolutely superb Dave . Gives us all a boost to see how far the model can be taken . I wouldnt mind some pictures of that on a decent background for a box label in the next run .

Its worth remembering too, that we started off this thread looking at the Eflite FW190 as a bench mark .

From what Ive seen so far, everyone's 190 has looked way more realistic and interesting than the rather simplistically finished ARTF .

    Great job everyone .

i will try not to let the side down when mine is done but don’t hold your breath ,my talent falls way sort compared to you guys

  7. on the fence with the spit / 109 but would probably say yes if the bank manger said ok

i have the wr spit flys great once i finally got it set to how i like it though our field does knock hell out of the retracts & also clipped wing due to losing a fight with car door 🤬

im more into the pacific fighters but like you say round fuzz .

do like the ki_61 p40 combo though .

P51s i cant have enough off

Spits would dearly love one of the griffon powered versions as opposed to a merlin version (that would probably offend quite few folk )

this probably doesn't help richard one little bit

    Hi Andy,

Might be a bit late now, but I can certainly talk you through what I have done. I have done some build stuff one some of my other foam builds, such as the Regianne Re2005, which flies brilliantly.

It's worth persevering Andy. As long as you put strength where it's needed, and learn a few new techniques, you can create great, lightweight and cheap models.

Drop me a line if you want to chat

    Graham

no worries Graham thanks for the reply

il keep following forums etc rather than pestering you or others for that matter

My big winter project is reaching the 'exciting' stage!

74" span (1/6scale) Spitfire Mk1. This will be based on P9374, which was the subject of a book Peter Miller very kindly gave me. It crashed onto the beach in Calais in 1940, and sank into the sand. It was recovered in the 80s, and rebuilt to flying condition. I love a back-story, so this had to be done.

It's mostly depron (laminate flooring underlay from B&Q), but with some balsa and ply in order to keep it all into line at this scale. It is a proper 'full fat' model with retracts and flaps, and a reasonable amount of scale detail, thanks to Mick Reeves. It's (hopefully) going to fly on 6S, and will be covered in glass cloth, applied with B&Q water based varnish (I am not affiliated with B&Q, other DIY stores exist... ;-)). It will be painted with emulsion, and finished in the Richard Wills school of scale. It is intended to look great in the air, good on the ground at 10 ft, and only certain angles permitted to view closer than that....

Target weight is around 7 lb. Given that Mick Reeves superb kits fly incredibly well at 12lb plus, this should get up OK. In fact, as Richard puts it, it may be at risk of flying like a bin bag in any sort of wind... However, it's several hundred meters from the car park to our strip, and I'm gonna need several tea breaks carrying a 12lb model that far.

The thing to note here is how versatile foam/ foamboard/ depron can be. From others on here we have very quick build/ low cost models that take the (financial) fear out of flying and allow us to just enjoy, but it's also possible to make decent and very practical scale models.

I'm always up for a chat about this if anyone is getting interested. Just as an appetiser, prior to my WR FW190 build, I'm going to make a 'Dusty Crophopper' from the Disney film 'Planes' (a great watch, btw!) as my grandson is obsessed with this...

Lovely model Martin . I do think you pick some interesting ones . I like the Italian jobs . Lovely paint schemes too and your weathering on the cowls there is exquisite . My guess is that we are in the minority though . If not though , can we all have a 202 ? Surely one of the most beautiful fighters .

However , you know which model the massive Warbirds Replicas Corporation has sold the most of ? More than Spitfires or Hurricanes?

    La7 .  Explain please , explain please , doesnt compute ........

BTW Martin , you really should get a jet wash on that Patio mate . We  expect tropical rain forest here in the west , but where you are mate, really !

cant answer that question but i had one of your La7 loved it just looked as though it meant business which i guess was part of its appeal to me , would settle for another or any of the lavockins or yak 9s or migs for that matter
