I'll chuck a few more out, as the thread prompted me to take a few more pictures. My prime reason for getting a 3D printer was the dearth of pilot figures in the right sizes for me models and I've been very happy with the outcome. Just wish there were a few more gunners available.
Sqn Leader Pierre Clostermann, 802 "City of Glasgow" Squadron, in the office of my Flightline Spitfire IX.
Unnamed RAF pilot onboard my Balsacraft Spitfire PRXIX. Think that's of of Max Greuter's figures.
Avios Spitfire VB with one of Max Greuter's figures - this model has an opening canopy and operational joystick, linked to ailerons and elevator. The pilot also has a servo which turns his head with the rudder.
Here's an oldie but goldie, a Dave Banks pilot bust of Pilot Officer Bob Stanford Tuck at 1/12th scale in the cockpit of my boy's GWS Spitfire.
Instructor and student onboard my EFlite PT-19.
My latest, just finished yesterday, simple jet pilot in my refurbished ancient Kyosho T-33, refinished as one of the Air Force Communications Service aeroplanes. Yes, there should be a rear seater, but that rectangular box houses the elevator servo, so he's Captain William N. O'Mates, USAF.
If you don’t mind me asking which 3D printer , most of my pilots these days are flown by invisible woman off fantastic 4. Due to the fact like you say a lack of pilots

Flown your all balsa spitfire once or twice off the dolly no problem either end of flight ,
flys beautifully

The first batch used the FMS Predator 580KV motor with the original FMS 4 Blade Spinner and Prop. Don't use the 4250 800KV on the 4 blade as it is too hot for that prop.
I’ll probably go with the 800kv . Never seem to get things right with 3/4 blade props plus 2 blades are easy to get hold of

Thanks for posting those shots Murat . I spoke to Dave a couple of weeks ago on the phone. I think I'm right in saying that this was his first scale build . I know he was one of the last to get on the Tempest band wagon , so he has caught up fast and made a lovely job of his kit .
It would be interesting to here a little bit about his build from the point of view of someone who hadnt built and finished to such "complicated" level before .
I'd like to think that our process of using brown paper and B &Q paints , combined with a relatively quick build kit which featured foam veneer wings, would make this kind of model more accessible to those perhaps considering having a go .
I have to say that I have been very impressed with the final outcome and particularly the finish on the Fw190s and Tempests .
Well done chaps , I think you could make pretty much anything now .
I have a handful of each model in stock still if anyone has a friend who is "teetering" on the edge .
On a similar track I have been looking at a tougher and quicker build wing for the WB Spitfire kit . The Mk9 kit is a very nice all laser cut kit , but looking at the short runways and rough fields that some of you fly from , I think a more robust version of the Spitfire , more along the lines of the 190 would be useful .
Show below is the latest reincarnation of the foam wing with a small amount of balsa added . The shape is exactly that of the Arthur Bentley drawings .
Obviously there is some sanding , but actually not that much . The wings will stand up to bellylanding very well but also accommodate landing gear at a later date .
That be nice another spit thinking pink again 😃

Unfortunately my Hunter F6 met with ground, quite fast and almost straight down. A true nose plant but all my own fault. I had forgotten that determining orientation at distance with an all black plane can be a problem particularly when close to the ground.
However as is usual for a foam stressed skin construction it crumples and absorbs the crash energy. This means the remainder of the airframe is completely undamaged and still operational.
It will simply need a new nose making. The tricky bit will be arranging the damaged area so the nose can be stuck on.
The new nose built as a half shell over the plan.
When complete it is rigid enough to be lifted and the other side built on the same way. This is exactly how the original was built so the "new" is no heavier than the "old".
More complex than the nose repair of the Skyray so not a 3 day job!
To be continued.
What glue are you using for the planking if you don’t mind me asking

Hello Nick,
Very much enjoyed your build thread and successful Hellcat flight! I will be starting on the Bates 96" Hellcat probably summer or Fall of 2025. Right now, I am finishing up my second 1/5 Bates F8F Bearcat. All the "building" is done and I am into the glassing and detailing process. Currently flying a Bates 1/5 scale Wildcat with a Saito FG-90. I also have been flying a scratch-built Grumman XF5F Skyrocket (twin). My goal is to have 4 Grumman warbirds all built and flying at the same time!
I will definitely save your build thread for when I break ground on my Hellcat!
Thanks,
Richard
Grumman Cats cant beat them 👍 (grown up on fighter collection displays even now i still love them )my modeling budget & skills prevent me from having such collection )

Well as promised here are the pictures of the cockpit kit. Two kits, one for the High back model and one for the 51D Low back as there is more room for the radio behind the seat in the D than the B. The radio is in two parts for you to decide if you want the height. It will need assembling, enabling it to be painted, just use a dab of CA. I used drab olive, satin black and a bit of brown for the leather headrest. The kit is £22.99 which includes the Pilot Top & Legs which is £8.99 if you just want that on it's own.

The main thing is to keep the overall weight down, to avoid the complications of the twist and turn retracts on the Corsair I built it without undercarriage. It takes off on a dolly and lands on the wings which have no special reinforcement. I planked the fuselage with 3/32" balsa instead of 1/8. It is the same size as the FW190 but I saved about 750grms on the overall weight. I get 8 minutes flight times.
Hi
very sorry to sidetrack slightly but could you post details of your motor /cells/ prop Etc for the Corsair
im on the verge of getting a short kit to do the same
