  1. I've recently acquired a complete fuselage - but unfortunately the wing was sold at a local table top sale!! So - just in case anyone reading this, or who happens to know who bought a transparent yellow vintage wing from the recent Phoenix MAC table top sale at Chelford Village Hall, please get in touch. I was planning to use the Zephyr to teach my granddaughter to fly. Many thanks
  2. Thank you for your thoughts and ideas. Incidences have been checked - OK. The photos are somewhat distorting the alignment. The lower part of the tip fins is all that has been removed, so that the steerable tail wheel can touch the ground!. Noted re the aileron differential, and yes a three axis stabiliser is being actively considered. According to the full-size design work by Maurice Delanne - the vertical gap between the front and rear wings is critical to his design principles and Bert Streigler's write up on the D200 confirms this. I already fly with a tray. Attached is the original article and view of the plan FYI Sept 1981 RCM&E Delanne plan article Page 1.pdf Sept 1981 RCM&E Delanne plan article Page 2.pdf Sept 1981 RCM&E Delanne plan article Page 3.pdf
  3. I've built and flown a tandem wing design from September 1981 RCM&E - Bert Streigler's Delanne D200. From the get go it has exhibited odd handling characteristics. Specifically: Squirrely take off runs - leading to a removal of the rear wing tip skids and replacement with a steerable tail wheel Any attempt to loop results in it rolling out to the right. Inverted flight - rolls out to the left Slightly barrelly rolls are OK but slow........................... The control system is ailerons on the front wing and elevators on the rear wing with a conventional fin and rudder Options being considered are an elevon control system and or a 6 axis gyro Thoughts, hints, experience........................ Photos show model in original format Many thanks John B
  4. I've just acquired an unbuilt mid-70's Quest Stomper kit. Some delamination of the obechi covered foam pieces has occurred - so out with the Copydex - current thinking on this?? I've got a scan of the instructions and some damp damaged plans - so OK there. I do not have a set of decals - possibly because they didn't age well or have become lost over time. Can anyone help with some Quest Decals? I'm trying to track down Roger Gedge - who lived near Ipswich and was the owner of Quest Models - again any leads would be great. Finally - artwork of the finished model would good, so that I can try to replicate the original Many thanks John B
  5. Thanks Gary - sorted. I found that I needed to pull the aerial up slightly first?
  6. This query has nothing to do with best aerial orientation for RF transmission. My Dx6i Tx aerial bends at the joint to the left when looking at the front of the transmitter. A Dx7S I have an opportunity to buy has an aerial which bends to the right. I use a soft case for the Dx6i and was planning to use this case for the Dx7s but it will not fit with the aerial bending the other way. I noticed there is a screw in the base of the aerial, and removing this does allow a small amount of up & down movement but no rotational movement. Do I have to partially disassemble the Dx7s and remove the aerial and refit the other way round, or should I just buy a case that works for both orientations? Many thanks in advance
  7. I've been looking for a Quest Stomper Biplane for quite sometime - either as a NIB kit (unlikely) or a re-commissionable complete model - with or without engine or radio. Anyone have a model or kit they're prepared to sell??
  8. Thanks again everyone - Flightline Mustang most likely
  9. Firstly, thank you for all of your comments and ideas - I will follow them up. I'm an intermediate level sports flyer who has come back into 'planes after 30+ with helicopters. In addition our new club field is not for the foreseeable future suitable for ROG The plan is get a hand launch / belly land stable-ish low wing / shoulder wing warbird that behaves like a sports low wing non-scale model. I've no plans to move onto larger scale machinery - I fly nitro larger intermediate machines
  10. I'm looking to buy a smallish warbird - I'm thinking 3S LiPo size, either hand launch or fixed undercarriage to keep it simple. I'm advised that the Mustang tends to be one of the more stable ones.....? I normally fly Futaba FASST , but also have a Spektrum DSM2/ DSMX transmitter. I would even consider a nitro capable model - I have a couple of spare engines (15 & 19 size) So - I'm after some practical advice and / or a good used model - WHY??
  11. I purchased a lightly used Ripmax Wot's Wot foam-and I cannot get the ESC to work. My initial radio set up was a Futaba 8FG + R606FS FASST Rx - nothing - no beeps - just a low frequency "ticking" Next up was a new R617 FASST Rx - nothing - just a low frequency "ticking" I've tried calibrating the throttle channel, reversing the throttle channel (sometimes needed with Futaba) - nothing - just a low frequency "ticking" Next up was a Turnigy ESC with the R606FS Rx - nothing Next up I changed radio to a Spektrum Dx6i + AR 6200 Rx using DSM2 - everything worked fine with the Turnigy ESC, but nothing with the original Ripmax one - except a higher frequency ticking? I know the battery is fine, as is the motor. The BEC side of the Ripmax ESC works too Is it just a knackered ESC??
  12. I'm looking for a complete (with or without engine - but c/w clutch, cooling fan. shroud, etc) GMP airframe for recommissioning and / or repair. Specific models - include Cobra, King Cobra, Competitor, Legend elite, and Stork What have you please?
  13. I'm interested Peter - I did message you earlier. How much inc P&P Many thanks John B
  14. I'll close this off because the confusion was my fault. I needed to have selected the aileron configuration much earlier in the process of setting up an aircraft - i.e. 1-Aileron, 2-aileron, etc.. Once done everything then works as it should - I was trying to mix channels unnecessarily!
  15. Hi John, I have a 40 too which was NIB when I bought via ebay from the US. It runs Model Technics 1000, turning a 21" x 7" in a Wot Trainer - superb. Both the 20 & 40 have this grub screw locking which I thought was standard Thanks for the Engine Doctor tip too John B
  16. Having had great success running Somoso and Weston add-on silencers on my 25 & 40 size engines, I'm now looking for a another 25-size item. What have you??
  17. Trying to sort out a butchered Irvine 20 diesel recently bought off a well known auction site. The area around the compression screw locking mechanism (essentially a grub screw inserted into a tapped hole in the side of the cylinder head) has been butchered. Ideally I'm looking for a new spare cylinder head & compression screw, but willing to consider a used part in good condition or even a complete non-runner engine. What's out there??
  18. Programming my first model in a new-to-me 8FG. Model has 2 servo aileron operation - sorted the correct operation of ailerons using channels #1 & 6 on a 617 Rx. Trying to sort dual rates out - two problems 1) how to assign separate switches for elevator and aileron dual rates? Following the usual confusing Jenglish instruction manual produces odd results 2) how to set up dual rates for channel #6?
  19. As a returnee to fixed wing aircraft after 35 years on the helicopter side I'm recommissioning a late '70's - early '80's pattern ship! The airframe is a Phoenix 7 equipped with Rom-Air retracts, and the plan is to fit a Kraft 61 (c/w Kraft carb!) with a Bolly carbon fibre tuned pipe, and modern r/c. I'm stripping out the Rom-Air equipment with a view to fitting new "O" rings to the gas cylinders, new pressure lines all round, possibly a new control valve, and filler connection (for air not refrigerant in this day & age!!) Courtesy of the BMFA classified I've acquired a complete instruction manual. I'm sure I can sort out the size and material for the air cylinder "O" rings. Probably Robart parts to replace the original lines, valves, etc - or similar from Motors & Rotors. However, for anyone with info, advice, new and unused original parts - please get in touch. Many thanks John B
