Hi, as a novice in this hobby, where would you put the CG with this sort of wing arrangement?. Thanks in advance.

I have had a Proxxon for about 5 years, the most useful feature for me is the ability to tilt the cutting blade.

This makes cutting strip balsa with beveled edges for planking very easy and fast. Suddenly planking becomes a pleasure 🙂

Yes, a tilting table is valuable. Thats the problem with the cheaper models, lack of a tilt. I have a cheaper one how I know. I have had full size models in the past so have some experience in use.

I second that , join a club. Normally there will be somebody that has tx/rx for sale. You know where it comes from.

My spelling cud do with being improved. As my teacher's used to say - "Must try harder."

Should be "couldn't" make out what the engine is ?

This forum is not about spelling or grammar , dont worry about it.

Unfortunately not my build. Always been interested in the Optica but put off due the fatal accidents a some years back. I could make out what the "engine" is but obviously something with lots of rev's.

An excellent model but they do seem to fly a bit fast for my taste. ?

    Thanks for your input John.

Do they have to foam cored wings ? Would built-up be lighter ?

    YouTube -

John, if I remember correctly the plan is for built up wings. Sarik do not mention foam wings. Is this your build?. From the sound the model is fitted with an electric motor and what looks like a  5 blade prop!!!!!, that is the ears of a novice, so could be wrong!!!!. Is this your build?

  7. Hi David, it is something that I to wanted to build.electric was /is my choice. I have the plans as well. I just cant make that last leap. It looks like a big project, it worries me that it will drag on for some while. Please keep this thread going and keep in touch. Yes please keep in touch!!!!! Where did you get the foam cores?.

Basil, I fabricated the brake "blades" by laminating balsa/ply/balsa with a cut-out in the ply to accept the nylon hinge, you can see on my photos the knuckle of the hinge visible. It needed a lot of dry fitting and fettling to get the clearances required for smooth operation. The underside of the cut-out in the wing was reinforced with 1/8" balsa strip which also allowed me to cut a slot to accept the hinge. I then covered the brakes before glueing them in position, I have to say that it was a lot of faff but I wanted them as extra security due to the tight landing area of what was then my usual flying field.

    Many thanks.

Dont forget to keep your smuggler clear of the prop.!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Well Wookman, I can work out , in theory about a lever system  that works, but; there are the other things like, covering the spoiler face, that means you need access to reconnect after covering. Needing access to adjust the system so that they close properly. Both LH & RH mechanics must be identical, therefore adjustment required.

Where is the ideal position of the 'Brake' on the wing surface?. I assume the surface area  will be reflected by their efficiency . The T31m is my first venture into gliders our field is not that big so I think it needs brakes. A picture paints a thousand words.

I can fix the servo (With adhesive )But need access to the coupling at the other end (Fix to horn)  under the brake, cant seem to be able to work out the fittings required.

PS just had some other thoughts.

I have difficulty in adding pictures;!!!!!

  11. Can anybody advise re above. My limited knowledge has allowed me to work out various methods but they all fall down on one aspect or the other when it actually comes to fitting them.  I can't find any info on the subject of fitting airbrakes anywhere.  I have looked at Chris Williams latest Foka, (Free plan) but there are no details, well not enough for me. Thanks in advance.

A little bit of work on the cowl, I had already printed the dummy engine halves (VW air cooled boxer) and was wracking my brain as to how I could complete the exhaust system using only bits I could find knocking about the workshop. In the end a combination of brass tubing, piano wire, electrical cable, balsa and a yoghurt pot did the trick and gives a reasonable (I think) representation of the prototype.

First job was to cut out the area around the engine and fix some balsa on the inner face to give me something to glue to:

I fabricated the exhaust by soldering the brass tube parts in a simple jig:

.............. gives me something that looks like this:

Stephen, I am trying to fit spoilers/air brakes to this T31m. Worked out a system using wire /axle type hinges. Fixed once attached, before covering. Scrolled down and saw yours finished but loose. How do you manage to do this please. Do you re-fix the hinge after covering?. If so how please.

Cant get my head around it. the linkage was difficult enough.( first picture of this group). Mnay thanks.

  13. Hi, once again I have gone thru all of the articles, kindly sent to me by Kevin. I have found the references to a procedure to encompass the new elevator wing. I must apologies to you all, especially Kevin. Sorry but I have had a bit on at the moment.

    many thanks.

  14. Hello out there. Has anybody built this wing ? . Some one must have, although its been a long time since the onset. The new Aileron wing has a symetrical shape, unlike the flat bottom one. How do you line up the new one with the old when mounting the wing on the fuse' ?.  Do you overlay them keeping the frt-back  in line with a line thru' LE and TE? seems logical to me but............... letting this line dictate the wing angle. 'Answers on a post card please, the closing date is .............' thats what they used to say on the radio, some years ago admittedly, but that shows my age !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just trying to make light and keep going. Thanks for those of you that may have some info. No urgentcey with this as its been in the pipe line for some while as Kevin must have been aware.

  15. Kevin, hello, hope you are well. The drawing you show is the one I have , that I got from you I believe !.I have had trouble in moving it from my downloads to somw where I can do something with !!!!.

Have you built it ?. The oringinal wing did not have ailerons, this wing is a different profile and I assume  the 'Seat in the fuse' will hav e to be modified. If so how do you set the new angle( Angle of attack). Seems to raise some issues. Many thanks.

Hi, I have manage to accumulate the articles and plan for the original( Without ailerons). Does anybody have a copy of the plan for the wing with ailerons, that appears to be the only thing missing.

    Thanks

    Bas

I must apologise to you all. I have in fact found a download of that plan, however I am having trouble printing it/moving it so that I can get a full size print.

The new wing has a sermi symetrical shape, different from the original. Surely  this mean the wing mount shape will be different ?.
