  1. +1 on engraved rocker covers, that should not impact typical supply. You can hold off till next year on the .70 I'm trying to order, if those rocker covers are in the pipeline 🙂
  2. @Jon - Laser Engines, I understand you want to selibrate the 40 years. As boring as it may be, I would think lots of customers would much prefer production slots being used to replenish stock. So my vote is against a special engine run.
  3. Not thrusting them might be a bit short sighted, but the proof would be in the pudding. As for cost, even if only slightly less expensive as importing in EU, at least it would mean money spend supporting a companies operations rather as shoving more money in a tax hole.
  4. Even better, find a secondary production facillity on EU soil and have them build under license. Drops custom costs even further and frees some UK production hours for your local market and experimentation.
  5. Thanks Jon, it is that level of service/depth of reasoning why I've always kept away from the truly mass production products, and waited to see what Laserengines would bring. 👍 High RPM on a radial is indeed not desired. So, a 160 flat twin might be a more suitable option, as that would fit the Bucker cowling. And eventually be usable for a scaled up Sig Smith Miniplane and the likes. I am not in a rush, I'll wait until they leave 'test phase' and are shippable/servicable over the channel.
  6. Jon/Kevin, The only thing stopping me from buying an UMS 7-35 is my lack of thrust in both quality, spareparts availabillity and most certainly, support. Not it's price tag. But yes, there may not be sufficient customers, I do understand that risk 😔 I just want to repeat that there ARE at least some out there who'd like a small single, twin and radial.
  7. I'd be very tempted for a radial fitting a 1/4 Svenson/Platt Bucker Jungmeister; but those seem out of scope 😔
  8. Would a 160FT fly a 1/4 Svenson Bucker Jungmeister? That 180ish width would fit. How I hate Brexit, with Laser Engines getting back in swing ?
  9. Once flying, don't forget to let us know how the Laser180 (or V Laser) fairs in the BUSA DVII. Always good to have flying references with feedback.
  10. Most here do not share or care about your way of thinking. If you do not like it, stop following. Simple.
  11. ... might not be single throw, don't remember.
  12. Someone made one in the past using Laser components. It's detailed in one of the Strictly IC magazines.
  13. Posted by Jon - Laser Engines on 21/09/2020 08:12:48: Never tested it so cant say. It will probably be ok, but who knows? 2stroke versus 4stroke, does it matter?
  14. I would buy a laser suitable for a Svenson Vicomte in a heartbeat, if one were to come available that is.
  15. Posted by Jon - Laser Engines on 14/05/2020 16:22:35: ... We need to work out a way of distributing it....... And in doing so, not forgetting your mainland EU customers For what it's worth relating 'your' horses, those next to our field coudn't care less.
  16. And Jon, don't forget a stylish back-mouted integrated starter for the radial 😁
  17. Posted by Jon - Laser Engines on 21/11/2019 12:05:04: Dirk - Why would you use ethanol but not methanol? Both cost more or less the same and the engine would use them in similar quantities so there would be no fuel cost advantage. I dont believe you can use a glow plug with ethanol so you would need an ignition unit and this would make the engine more expensive than a glow to begin with. Ethanol is more difficult to get as well, at least it seems to be here in the uk. Also, what would put you off the engine on normal methanol fuel in the first place? Im a little confused! Steve, good to know. The engines i have in mind are (somewhat selfishly) designed in part around my own needs for engines to fit DB Hurricane/Spitfire, 1/5 scale P40 and Spitfire etc. The concept of one of the designs however could shrink down to a 160-200 size though for models like your YT spit and Hurricane. This is all hypothetical right now, but a glow version would be much easier to produce if i got the chance. Edited By Jon - Laser Engines on 21/11/2019 12:08:55 In Belgium Methanol can't be sold over the counter anymore, thus, almost impossible to mix your own fuel and local hobby shops are getting extinct and/or do not carry nitro-less fuel etc... I would have no objection against having to use an ignition system on a larger Laser. It is an extra point of failure though.... and so far I've been an electrics only guy so all of this may not make much sence. Ethanol is less toxic as methanol (far from an expert on that matter), and since I encountered an online shop selling E100....I simply raised the question coming in with a blanc sheet.   My position still stands that I would not buy a 50cc methnol for reason of fuel accessibilty and fuel cost difference with petrol
  18. I would not buy 50cc methanol. I'd prefer you to spend research resources in workable petrol design.  As side note, ever considered E100 engines?  Edited By Dirk Witvrouwen 1 on 21/11/2019 11:48:44
  19. Thanks for the replies relating nitro percentages. Once my 180 arrives, I'll probably be using Hobby-In mix initially. Their standard mixes use a minimum of 20% Klotz though. https://hobbyin.nl/product/brandstof-met-klotz-olie/  (edit, added link) I'll await the arrival of my 180 before purchasing anything; assuming the engine comes with break-in instructions/requirements. 20. How critical is the methanol purity for the engine's health? Meaning, as of what purity % is the methanol OK for use? I understand that lasers can run without nitro, if not too cold. Above what temperature are we talking to hold a fair idle? Or is this rubbish; and is the 5% nitro a necessity for all but the brave? I'm asking since the locally available glow fuel seem dodgy, they don't even state the oil % properly, let alone the type (I called the hobby shop to check, they did not find the oil %).
