  1. Most of my take off's have been from a hard surface but on the odd occasion that I fly off grass then I find that a small push to get the aircraft moving is all that is needed. The outriggers seem to be the issue so one day I will bend some skids into them to reduce the drag. Peter the retract looks very good when I do a low fly past and cycle the wheel up and down. As for the flying I cannot tell any difference with the wheel up or down. John
  2. Top picture showing my electric conversion and the other two showing the retract. F1 moved forward to accomodate the short electric motor, aalso the retracted wheel. John
  3. Forecast looks good for tomorrow so will hope to get some pics for you
  4. For your info, I bought one of those cheap electric retract units via ebay and have mounted mine onto a plate just behind behind the main former 1 with a cutout under the front fuselage and wing. The retract then works forwards. A cutout in the front of the wing is also needed to get the gear in the correct position. I tend now to buy Overlander 3548 motors and fit them into whichever aircraft that I am making so there is one in my harlequin as well. The fournier flies for 12 minutes on a 3cell 2200 and on recharge I find that there is about 30% of the charge still remaining. Mine flies like all Peter Millers planes, very well.
  5. Trevor, has your RV4 flown yet? For your info my RV3 has now had 150 flights using a Thumper 4250, 600 kv motor ( it was spare at the time of installation). It flies both on 3 & 4 cells, on 3 the prop is 14x10 and on 4 cells it is 14x7. Flight times are 10 minutes on 2300 x 4cell but I like to fly low and slow.
  6. OK that one went through so here is a pic of the front end in build. A new F1 has been made 3" forward of the plan version, the 1/8 ply cut former is where F1 was on plan. Motor just mounts at the front.
  7. Martyn, thanks for that, here goes with the picture of the front end of my electric conversion.
  8. Martyn Thanks for the advice however I am better at building and flying than I am with the computer. I tried to copy the picture but could not paste it into "my photos". Copy and paste works ok in my own files but not here. Any suggestions? It is now past midday and the sun is coming out so as I am retired I am off flying.
  9. Details are as follows but remember that I used a spare motor which flew my Fougray well. Motor- Tornado 4250. 3-7 lipo capable. 600kv. 720 watt max 60 amp esc as that was what I had in my stock. First flights were using 11.1v, 2200ma battery with a ground wattage of 350. Approx 6 minutes I will obtain a 4s battery with 3600ma to give me more watts and a longer flight time If I could work out how to add an image then I would send one with the modified front end.
  10. I have just completed my Vans RV3 and have converted it to electric. The conversion needed some alterations from the plan in that I took the cross section drawing of the cowl and made that F1 thus moving it forward by about 3".The electric motor is then mounted direct onto this former. The plan F1 was made from lite ply and cut about to make a battery access and the top of the model from new F1 to F3 is removable. A vacformed front cowl was made. Due to the new light former a carbon formed undercarriage was used but with spats fitted it is not noticeable The weight is 51/2 lbs and it flew like a dream on it's maiden flight last week, since has had 5 flights.
  11. Brian, very slowly at present as since getting the plan I have been sidetracked with several other models that I have built. The idea is to convert the plane to fly electric as I sold all of my ic engines some years ago and to that extent the fuselage is half built with battery access openings put in. The wing ribs are cut but  a small Tiger Moth is on the board at present to be followed by  Luscombe Silvaire.  Retirement!! no time to do it all. John
  12. Peugeot 406 estate diesel 1. It will pull my caravan 2. There is room enough for the dog in the back 3. With the seats folded I can get 2-3 models in fully rigged with all accessories 4. I think my wife likes it
  13. Hi David On the left side of this page is a section titled " Best selling items etc". One of the items is the David Vaughan P51 B Mustang plan, now I have never seen anyone make a model from this particular  so I wonder how many plans of this aircraft have been sold? Are there lots or was the one plan that I received just before Christmas the tipping point that put it into the top sellers Having now studied the plan it is a beauty but it is like looking at a 2000 piece jigsaw, where do you start? First of all clear the decks of the debris from previous projects as this is a fairly large aircraft. Mine will be powered by electric, what are the others going to be powered by? Let me know Regards John
  14. Hi David I have been quietly steaming over the last 2-3 years about the reviews particularly ARTF models. The problem has been the number of photos taken. I remember one review by Alex Whittaker a couple of years ago containing 18 pictures, some from the left front and rear, right front and rear on the ground and ditto in the air. No assembly shots of the engine installation or radio fitted and coupled just the finished article. Now for the good news. I have just started to read the Jan issue and joy, the first article about the P 38 Lightning by yourself is nearly perfect. Only three flying shots, an exploded picture of the parts, the motor arrangement and individual points of interest. Admitted there is no radio installation but with 13 photos you have covered nearly everything I want to see. The next review of the GForce Edge 540 has it all including what I think is very important, a picture of the builder (or anyone) to give size to the model. Keep up the good work. John
  15. Made the smaller Spitfire (electrified) and if the larger one flies half as well then it is a good one. The new Futaba 2.4 looks good but I am confused in that to get it working you switch tx on near to the rx then press a button on the rx to log on. Does this then permanently remember the combo so that the next visit to the field or even the next flight stays live? With my scale models taking 10 mins to rig there must be something that I have missed.
