  1. Hello Im finding this thread brilliant entertainment. I wonder how long some of this stuff stays on sale for? I wonder if they actually con anyone into buying it. It makes me kind of sad, as many years ago when my Dad first started with RC, he was ruthlessly ripped off with second hand radios and engines ( all of which were faulty). We did persevere and get better kit. Even when an established modeller, I could not get some of our early engine purchases to run. Keep um coming Rod
  2. Hello A nice engine. I don’t think there is much around that would take this engine. The plans that are linked are actually just construction guides for a glass and foam Magic kit that used to be made in Germany. You could try and find some MK plans around on the net for a 45 size Aurora, or even a 40 sized Wolfgang Matt Arrow. kit wise, I think there is nothing that you could just use, but would look at the Dalhotel 1500 ARF from Pichler. I think you could mod it to work. You could find a set of 60 size Terry Westrop Loaded Dice plans and scale them down a bit. Perhaps they did a Loaded Dice 40, but I’m not aware of that. As an outside option, there is the old Clive Weller Murcura, Sarik plan number RM255. I made one of the these using a clapped out side exhaust 60 ( as I was skint and had no money for a rear ex motor) and it flew well. It was a pretty hard build, but came out light. Personally I’d look for a Loaded Dice 40 plan, if none are around I would just scale the 60 down to say 52-55” span. Rod
  3. Hello all, The header tank ‘thing’ is incredibly common on Helicopters. The motors on those seem to run very well although I’ve never tried bypassing the header to see if it made tuning any harder or reliability any worse. The header set up on this plane could be to add to the total fuel capacity or try and keep some of the total fuel over the centre of gravity to avoid trim changes. I did this on a Capiche once and had a 4oz header tank in the canopy. This was driven by lack of space for a tank in the nose and an incredibly thirsty YS63. From memory all that would fit in the nose was a 8oz tank which gave really short flight times. Being a YS , it didn’t care less about moving the fuel from under the canopy and ran just fine. Rod
  4. Hello The Saito sound quite nice. I’ve seen reports of them eating themselves, which isn’t good, consider the cost. ive got some other projects ( total house renovation) before I get on with the Stearman. There were some build threads on RC Universe reporting of incorrect tail incidence and a power climb issue. I was trying to get hold of pictures of the full size to see if the tail section was cambered or symmetrical. I figured if I made the tail ribs cambered it would help reduce the power climb tendency. I will be flying mine pretty much ‘full on barnstorming’ hence I’ve got another set of horns/hinges to make it 4x aileron. I didn’t see any 3 x cylinder Laser engines on the site or know of their existence regards Rod
  5. Saito do a couple of 3 cylinder petrols. I thought the 90 3x cylinder would work ok. From what I read the 84 that preceded was not that good. I also see on their website they have a 5 x cylinder 73 which looks like a new addition. Rod
  6. Very nice I have one of those to build, as well as the a NIB tiger moth kit. Mine was one of those ‘well built, part finished kits’ you see advertised. Luckily just the fuselage and tail had not been attempted (ruined). In the end I just cut it all up to save and reuse the formers. It’s now totally rekitted. I think I will make mine into a 4x aileron version. I’ve obtained a second set of hinges. I will be following this with interest Rod
  7. Hello i have a small trainer (sig kadet 25) that I built for my son. Given the amount of water around I think I might try it on floats. Ideally I would get some prebuilt floats or kit floats? I’d like light weight 25 to 40 size floats ablecto support 5 to 6 lbs Does anyone know where I can get a float kit from? I tried the kit cutters( Belair) but they didn’t have anything. Has anyone got the plans for the old Graupner float set ( Graupner part number 123) or even a unused Graupner float kit? Other floats considers. Any advice much appreciated Regards Rod
  8. I saw references to needing nose weight on other threads. I also plan to split the fus for transport and keep the wings rigged I might do a build thread. Ive been trying to join this site for 10 years plus and always get locked out during setting up, contact administrator, etc, then complete lock down. I tried tonight ( first time in about 5 years ) and got straight on. Good- I’ve got some Flair Stearman build questions I can ask. Rod
  9. Thanks for the response so far. I guess my plans are the ‘shrunk’ variety. Im going to buy the laser cut ribs off e bay ( can’t be bothered cutting them out) and build the rest. I’ll stretch my wings to be the full 60”. I need to also transfer actual rib sizes onto the fuselage plans to make the wing cut out match , other wise the bottom wing might not fit on. I was going to add a bit of length to the nose ( maybe 1” ) to save ballast/ nose weight. regards Rod
  10. Hello i bought a plan for a Flair Puppeteer, so that I could build one from scratch. i think it maybe a copy of an original plan. Could someone please measure the wings on an original plan and see if they are actually 30” each side or just slightly below that , say 29” for instance. Its not a show stopper, but my plans might be slightly under size. I want to know if the kit built Puppeteer is a full 60” span or slightly under. Regards Rod re
