  1. Hi, I fly Mode 1, in West Sussex. I learnt in the West Midlands with the help of a club member/ Instructor
  2.  I have just ordered a set of spinners as offered from theb plans service, see below Hello, we have contacted the supplier and they are prepared to supply the spinners only. Cost: £7.45 per set including p&p. Please refer to this quote when you order. You can either email us your details - some customers split their card details over 2 emails for security. Or you can phone us on the number below betwenn 9am - 3pm. 3. My Lanc with 8x6 two bade props takes off quickly and cruises around at about half throttle on a reasonably calm day. It seems to have plenty of power in reserve. Malcolm
  4. Jamie, Thanks for the link for the props. I am using RCM Direct Brushless motors A2409-12T with Melody 25/35 amp speed controller with 2blade 8x6 props and 2 off 2200mah Nimh 8cell packs. It is important that these cells are charged immediately before the flight so that they are warm otherwise they have poor performance from cold. I was advised to keep the leads between the batteries and the speed controllers as short as possible and so I assembled the 4 speed controllers into a pack and fitted a small cooling fan run off one of the packs. This assembly is mounted in the fuselage but means that I have 3 wires running to each motor. Painted, ready to fly the model weighs just under 8 lbs buy flew very well. I have a set of 9x9 3blade props cut down to 8x9 which look great but I am worried that the current drawn withe these will be too high. I would like to change to Lipos and think the 8x4 props with 3 s lipos should be good. Malcolm
  5. High Jamie, I have flown my 6ft Lanc with brushless motors and 8 x 6 two blade props with success. I would be interested to obtain some 8 x4 three bladed props. Where have you seen that JP are supplying them? I have no sidethrust in my lanc and am running all motors in the same direction Regards, Malcolm
  6. I have rebuilt the Lancaster, fitted brushless motors but not yet reflown it. It is a pity you have not had the pleasure of flying your models. I would recommend that you do not fly the Lancaster until you are competent with a trainer and other single engine models. Malcolm
  7. Andrew, If you are using the speed 400 motors with gearboxes wired in series I would strongly advise you to link the inboard motors together and the outboard motors together rather than the two motors on each side. I know this will require more connections when rigging the model. My model crashed as a result of one of the gearboxes becoming detached from its motor. This resulted in a loss of the second motor on the same side with disasterous results. See my earlier note on this forum. All the best, Malcolm
  8. Lew Weaver, Thanks for your helpful reply. Sorry I thought it was from Tony. I am surprised that you are using 2s lipos rather than 3s. Was this to keep the overall current down? I was talking to RCDirect and was advised to use 3S. However, you say you had good performance with 2S. I am still contemplating changing my setup from speed 400s with gearboxes to brushless with Nimh or Lopos. I found my Lanc balanced well with the 2 packs of 8cell Gp2200 Nimh and would like to know whether you found it difficult to get the CoG right with the much lighter Lipos Regards, Malcolm
  9. Tony, Thanks for your very helpful information. How many of the 2s 4100mah lopos did you use. One per motor, pair of motors or all 4 Regards, Malcolm
  10. Tony, Thanks for your reply. I purchase my plan pack from SLEC at the Hastings Show last year and really enjoyed building it. I am in the process of building a new fuselage, repairing the wings and refitting the tail end which was undamaged. Are you able to advise on specific modestly priced brushless motors that would be suitable? I was using three blade master props 9x6" cut down to 8x6" as suggested wit gearboxe drives but the speed 400 motors were very hot after the flight. Regards Malcolm
  11. Problem with series-parallel wiring od motors in Lancaster. I flew and crashed my Lanc last weekend. It flew well for 3 circuits until both port engines failed at the worst time and the model stalled into the ground. (There was no room to cut all power and try to glide in) It seems to me if one motor loses a prop or the gearbox fails that motor will speed up and the other motor in series will also loose power. I think this is what happened in my case. I suggest wiring all motors in parallel 2 motors for for each 8 cell battery pack. Has anyone fitted brushless motors to this model. I would welcome your experience and details of your setups
