  1. The 1/6 scale instruments for the 1/6 scale Piper Cub I ordered from: www.iflytailies.com/‎ Scale RC accessories: cockpits, instruments, instrument panels, harnesses, seats, control sticks, pilots, decals, tow release, Aerofly, custom build service. The 1/6 scale Piper Cub Continental Engine Kit was ordered from: Top Notch Products Company - [email protected] Item Number TNPC 2943-16 Hope this helps. Regards, Ian
  2. Shortly I intend to start on a SIG 1/6 scale Piper Cub kit that I received as a birthday present! Should I build it as the bog standard yellow J3 or the less seen khaki military L4, greenhouse windows included?). Before I start the build I'm looking around trying to find as many true scale fittings as possible. I found a laser cut kit to build a 1/6 scale Lycoming engine for the Cub and a set of 1/6 scale instruments for the cockpit,. What I'm missing is 1/6 scale Piper Cub J3 wheels. Carl Goldberg do a range in 1/5. 1/4 and 1/3 but nary do I find 1/6 scale wheels and fittings. In the end I will most likely make up suitable looking wheels myself, but it would be so nice just to flash my plastic and a true scale set would appear! (I need to look at Trexler balloon wheels, they may possibly do the job). Regards to all, Ian

  4. Hi David, I see Ian Lang is due for a Foam Fing. I did request one but I'm Ian Laing, not the same person? Regards, Ian
  5. Hi, If I'm not far too late I would like to try a board, got a few ideas! Regards, Ian
  6. I must learn to practise what I preach! I managed a real greaser of a landing into the top of the highest bluegum tree on the island! I could blame this "landing" on the only excuse I can think of - the sun getting into my eyes so I think I will (even though the sun had set fifteen minutes earlier)! It took me about four hours this morning to recover the model. After spending the night alone high in the tree the only damage I could find is a burned out ESC and a useless LiPo battery as a result of being unable to switch the power off. Regards, Ian

  9. Landings are my priority! The old adage that to be able to walk away from an arrival should be counted as a “good” landing is a feeble excuse of ineptitude, “arrivals” with terra-firma can not be counted as landings as neither can a series of hops and bounces terminate a flight. After coming to a halt, the fact that the model is still in one piece and does not require a re-build can only be counted as a forced termination of a flight that ran out of the will to “aviate”, in no ways can it be seen as anything other than a very good example of mis-use of the runway. The fact that the aircraft is still whole and has come to rest in the same county of departure can only be construed as a feeble example of the cruelty shown by the owner to an otherwise perfectly airworthy model. Written in plain English – land the model as if you were in the model (and on the centre line of the runway you intended to land on), smoothly and gracefully. Not as if you were giving your mother-in law the treatment you feel she deserves.
  10. Taking off is an arbitrary decision, it does not have to be done, whilst landing the model after a flight is mandatory. In other words you have no choice, everything that goes up must come down eventually. How the model comes to rest once committing aviation is a major concern of mine; aerobatics are fun, showing off is even more fun but to finish with a flourish the landing has to be a greaser . . . hence this is MY most practised manoeuvre!!!
  11. Working on micro model electronics required me to have three or four of the 110ma LiPo micro-batteries on charge all the time. A fully charged battery will only last a maximum of fifteen minutes when testing/working on the bench. I needed a way to check the voltage of the micro-battery each time and a way to see if it was fully charged, no micro charger I have gives me this information. Then inspiration (or desperation?) gave me the idea that it would be so much better if I could use a battery with a much larger capacity. I could not find single cell LiPo cells of a suitable capacity, then I remembered my large capacity multi-cell LiPos each have a balancing connector for checking the voltage of each individual cell in the battery . As each individual cell is available, one at a time, I had found my answer to the problem of powering the receiver! Now, how to check a micro-battery’s voltage with my available checkers . . . What would I need to do this? The two pin male connector to the balancing socket came from an old male servo connector and a two pin female socket for connecting to the voltage tester . I ordered a male/ female JST-SH connector from my usual internet source (to suit my micro-battery and micro-receiver) and a male and female servo connector at the same time. I modified the servo connectors to use only two pins. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, the pictures below should save me a lot of typing and I hope, make it all easier to understand . . . Top cable: JST-SH female connector to two-pin servo type male plug – used for power micro receiver from large capacity LiPo multi-cell battery Lower cable: Female servo type two-pin socket connector to JST-SH male connector - used for checking LiPo micro cell voltage Orientation of the two cables

  13. This will be viewed as a silly attempt to win at last . . .
  14. Mike Black started the original Replikit and it was a breath of heaven to have those old kits available again, as well as laser cut, things just could not get better. Mike sold out to the "The Vintage Model Company" so he could persue his other interests and now the Vintage Model Company has taken up where he left off and are producing kits that leave nothing to be desired! I support them wholeheartedly and give Mike a belated thanks for bringing our oldtimers wishes back to us!
  15. I am absolutely against the "Nanny State" that gives all and sundry the right to protest against anything they set their minds to, the governing bodies that rather ban something than waste their idle time investigating a complaint that maybe has no relevance to anyone other than the person complaining. We are rapidly heading for a litigious society ( much like the U.S.A.) where if anything goes wrong every contributor is sued. A licence would give us some protection against unjust and unfounded claims as well as giving some degree of confidence to those who know or understand nothing about our hobby. The attitude of the vocal minority that if you are enjoying yourself it is their God given right to have it banned. A licence will only be accepted (or seen as a necessary evil) to those who take their hobby and responsibility for those around them seriously. A licence gives the holder a certain standing in the community, it is a licenced sport/hobby and not seen as a time wasting diversion of immature kids, noise creating nuisance and unprotected by any legislation. It will not stop those who never see the need to follow any law or ruling, but it will be a sign of responsibility by those who have a licence, have earned and demonstrated their ability to hold the licence. Freedom to do as we please went out with the Wild West and six-gun slingers. We either show and demonstrate our responsibility to the sport and general safety of those around us or leave ourselves to be banned by the whining minority. Let us become a licenced, vocal minority in the midst of this unconcerned world.
  16. I would really like to thank RCM&E for the gift so graciously given by them, only problem is I can't as every entry I have ever submitted has disappeared down the bottomless black hole, never to be heard of again. What is needed to be one of the chosen few to receive gifts from the Gods above?
  17. The severed finger?????? Old trick, make a small hole in the towel, push a right hand finger though the hole and then coat everything with a brilliant red lipstick or ketchup/tomato sauce. I've done it many a time, people are too gullible most of the time!!!! Regards, Ian
  18. Let me enter, it is just to make sure everyone else has a better chance!
  19. Garbo, it is all garbage! How much are you getting paid by the opposition?????
  20. If you want an Electric version we also do a Motor kit at £17.50 plus £3.50 post and packing. Regards, Ian
  21. "I'm the one" was my answer to the poll but "Competent": is the truer answer in my case, however I'm nearly always asked to do the maiden flight of a new or repaired aircraft, both power, thermal glider and slope. Helicopters are not my scene as they are an abomination to true "flight" so I have steered well clear of those contraptions.
  22. Is this the place to raise all your frustrations, moronic or Myronic, I'm not certain. Lets keep politics out of this hobby of ours and stick to trying to support our local model shop in future . . .
  23. Hi All, The first link WolstonFlyer posted - S.M.A.E. Logo in Google image search - found exactly what I needed. Thank you all very much for all the replies you sent - this RCM&E Forum has been my saviour now a number of times! Regards to all, Ian Laing
