  1. Thanks Martin for your reply. I was wondering about using silver solder, so I'm glad you mentioned it!
  2. I've been using Hitec radios for the last 15 or so years, and I've been quite satisfied with them. However, I'm thinking of changing radios as Hitec no longer manufactures them. So, what radio would you recommend? No doubt I'll get a variety of answers, but I'm happy to look at all viewpoints. Generally, I don't think I'll ever need more than 6 channels, and I do like to keep things simple. Thanks in advance!
  3. Has anyone got this particular mitre sander they don't want anymore?
  4. Oh dear! Its unfortunate as I've placed my order for the Radio Modeller Jan 1984 issue. The last paragraph in the Dec 1983 issue states: "Thus plan feature is unusual in that it has been split over two issues, due to the fact that Ben has supplied a great deal of information on building the scale interior in addition to colour schemes. This information and the full flying notes will be published next month". This Jan 1984 issue should be delivered within the next week. It will be a shame if what you say is actually the case. Thanks for the heads up!
  5. Does anyone have the Jan 1984 issue of Radio Modeller squirelled away! I need it to complement the Dec 1983 issue (that I have) where the Super cub is featured.
  6. As you can see on the Ben Buckle plan of my Super Cub, it says the elevator is All MATL. 1/4". Does anyone know what MATL means?
  7. I'm still constructing the wings and I am having a D box. I haven't as yet put the lower and upper sheeting on as yet, but I have put the webbing in and the wing is quite stiff; I've also put 1mm carbon strips down the length of each spar contributing to the stiffness. So I'm thinking too, of using the struts to create washout, as it's a little too late to build it in the wing - I could give it a go when gluing on the sheeting. I'll only put in a max of 2%. Martin - is it possible to post a photo of your redesigned struts? (I was thinking of using spruce and shaping it).
  8. Many good comments - thank you! From your comments I'm thinking of putting in a small amount of wash out using functional wing struts. So, with that in mind, how do I create this? Martin Harris - would you be so kind enough as to explain how the struts are made and attached on your Premier / Aerotech cub? Is it possible to make the struts so they can be adjusted to get the right amount of wash out?
  9. Can any of you Super Cub Flyers / Builders tell me if you have experienced wing tip stall at slow speed? As the Cub is a parallel chord wing, I'm assuming that it doesn't need any wash out; but I've read that the cub is prone to tip stall. What's your experience?
  10. I'm building a Ben Buckle design of a Piper Supercub; I believe it goes back to 1983. May I ask you Super Cub builders whether the wing tips should be as picture A, B or C?
  11. In Dec 2022 RCM&E, page 84 it mentions the 'Eric Coates method' of building a tail and wing tips. Can anyone shed more light on this? Is it describing the same method that Peter Miller describes in his book 'Designing Model Aircraft' on page 53?
  12. I used the following sealing pen that I think I got from the RCHut in South Wales. From memory it'll do about 3 planes and cost around £15.
