  1. Hi, you are making very fast progress! I am encouraged to start one of these, but am puzzled by a couple of things. It appears that the rudder servo is permanently built in to the fuz with no access. Do you think it possible to fit it low down in the main central bay and a throttle servo in the forward bay alongside a fuel tank? Also, can I ask what you will use for the main rotor bearing? This is another sticking point for me at the moment. If I can solve that problem, I can get started.. Keep up the good work! It's looking very smart so far. Regards, Tentpeg.
  2. I can recommend one book 'Winged Victory' by V.M.Yeates. He actually flew the machines, Sopwith Camels included and the book gives you a real insight as to what it was really like in the early days of combat flying. Apparently the pilots from WW2 would pay up to one months' wages for a copy of this book as they found it so inspirational. Regards, Tentpeg.
  3. Doesn't really matter what the correct terminology is, the simple fact remains that I still have four OS type RE plugs and they are suitable for an O.S Wankel engine. Anyone want them? Tentpeg.
  4. I didn't realise that anyone else, other than OS, made a rotary engine for models. Tentpeg.
  5. Hi Eric, Doesn't work for Malcolm Fisher as he has no email address or contact details listed, so I guess he may see it here, if at all? If I don't hear anything in a week, I'll probably stick them on eBay with some other bits and pieces that I have. Thanks for the suggestion. Regards, Tentpeg.
  6. Hi there Eric Bray, Thanks for the info on Malcolm Fisher. I've found his profile, but don't know how to actually contact him?? I can't seem to find any direct post from him where you suggest. Any ideas? Regards, Tentpeg.
  7. OK Richard, Many thanks for your advice, I'll probably do that. Regards, Tentpeg.
  8. Somebody was having a clear out recently and threw some OS Glow Plugs Type RE in my diection. The information on the pack says that these are specifically for the OS Wankel engines. I have about five of them so does anyone know if they are useable in any other type of  two or four stroke engines or should I just chuck 'em away? Regards, Tentpeg.
  9. I'm wondering if IC is fading out as you say. To give an example, the club I belong to has about 150 members, of which, only one  person flies exclusively electric. There are a few electric assisted gliders, but only one with nothing other than electric. I'm beggining to wonder if we might all becoming victims of a lot of commercial hype, just to keep up peoples interest in the hobby???? It would be very interesting to know. Maybe it would be possible to get some idea through the BMFA? Regards, Tentpeg.
  10. Just out of interest Ernie, what size is the DH1a??? Happy New Year, Tentpeg.
  11. If it's a glow engine stick with the glow valve. Regards, Tentpeg.
  12. I can't quite visualise your problem from the picture, but would suggest that you use a three line system rather that repeatedly disconnecting from the carb as this can lead to small holes and air leaks in the line eventually. If this happens, you will never get the engine running properly and end up tearing out all of your hair in frustration. With a three line system, the main one (obviously from the main feed on the clunk in your tank) is connected to the carb and you don't disconnect it. You then connect one of the overflow or breather pipes to the exhaust for some pressure back into the tank. The other breather pipe is bunged up with a small screw and this is the one that you use to fill the tank. It is easy to see when the tank is full when the fuel comes up the line into the exhaust. I hope this helps. There is a very useful, step by step guide on how to set up an engine for reliable running written by one of the experts (Steve Dorling) if you are interested. Regards and best wishes for the New Year, Tentpeg.
  13. I just received a reply from your link and now have the details of the Speedy Bee and Stagger Bee (Bipe version)  , so many thanks once again. Tentpeg.
  14. Many thanks El Cid, I did as you suggested and am awaiting a reply. Regards and Happy New Year, Tentpeg.
  15. I am trying to borrow (copy & return) some plans for a Lazy Bee. These seem to have been discontinued or unobtainable. I am under the impression that this strange little aircraft came in various sizes and the only component that I have to hand is a pair of 4" diameter Trexler wheels so I will have to scale the plans to suit that wheel size and then decide what engine to put in it. I would be very grateful if someone out there can help and give me any other information that I would need in the construction. I will gladly return any plans and instructions to their owner and refund their postage in full.  Many thanks in advance, and a Happy New Year to all from, Tentpeg.
  16. I still say there is far too much emphasis on electrics and foamies. Happy New Year to all, Tentpeg.
  17. I thought your review was refreshingly honest. It is essential that shoddy workmanship by any of the ARTF manufacturers is brought to light and to the attention of the BMFA (who I hope will do something about it for the sake of safety). I have  seen appalling work with some ARTFs which has involved basic dangerous design faults, bad quality of material and just generally shoddy workmanship. Keep those honest reviews coming so we can learn before we waste our money or have a nasty accident. As far as general content of RCM&E is concerned, can we PLEASE have less of the electric foamies. Is the attraction that you can fit the small size plans into the magazine? As I said on a previous topic, out of approx 150 members in our club only about two are exclusively into electrics and there is a magazine exclusively dedicated to their interests. Give us more real aircraft with nice smelly engines. All the best for the season and for next year. Regards, Tentpeg.
  18. I think, if the supplier is selling goods which are not fit to do the job for which they are intended, he is obliged, by law to supply either a replacement or a suitable alternative. His other alternative is to offer a refund. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I must say that the people at CML have been very helpful to me with any problems and finally, after two failures of the 'carbon' versions, sent me a replacement undercarriage made of heavy gauge aluminium for the Ultimate. They freely admitted that they had received several other returns and were looking into the problem. Let's face it, no supplier wants any sort of problem or complaint if they can avoid it. Tentpeg.
  19. Hi there, YakMad, How does the Cermark Pitts compare in size to the Ultimate and what engine have you used?                                                                                                                                     My 'Ultimate' has a Super Tigre '90 which seems pretty adequate.                                          I have found from personal experience that 'Carbon Copy' U/Cs are made in the same way as the one supplied in the Ultimate kit and only have a very thin skin of carbon on the outer surface. It's only there for appearance. If anything it should be on the inside of the undercarriage legs for strength, but when I raised the question with them, suggesting that they put the carbon both inside and out, they told me that this would make them too rigid. Sounds like a b....hit, money saving excuse to me.                                                            Does anybody know where you can buy an undercarriage that is actually made of carbon fibre and not just coloured black to look like it? Regards, Tentpeg.
  20. Get the knife out now and don't take any chances! One thing that I've just discovered is that by adding diagonal ribs between the existing ones makes a wing a LOT more rigid. I was following the advice of Alisdair Sutherland when I scaled up a much smaller model and was amazed at the difference it made. Try it, it's a very quick and effective remedy. Regards, Tentpeg.
  21. Just been on the YT International site and it would appear that the only ME 109 that they now do has a glass fuselage and ready covered wings so its another ARTF. Curses, foiled again! I think we should challenge the manufacturers and ask if they dare to produce an ARC model, just so we can check the integrity of their structure. Maybe the BMFA would back such a request on safety grounds. It could only serve to raise the standard. Regards, Tentpeg.
  22. Thank you Steve, I'm glad I'm not the only one. Whilst talking of reviews, can anyone on the RCM&E team tell us if there are any 'Almost ready to Cover' models on the market. I seem to remember some Oriental people displaying such wares at 'Wings & Wheels' a few years ago. In the light of the many complaints about low construction standards, it would be interesting to know if there are any Manufacturers/Importers out there who have the courage to let us see what goes on underneath the covers??? Some of the examples that I've read in these columns give real cause for concern and could be very dangerous, if not fatal under certain circumstances. It would be good to have the option to buy the model, either finished or uncovered at a suitably reduced price. Regards, Tentpeg.
