  1.  Hi. guys. a few pic's of where i'm up to with the "whirly"  forget about the "background"    Barry
  2. Another plan I have come across, 74" 2 x ic power from Ken Kehlet, $35.00  W/Wide. Address is [email protected]. Barry
  3. AL T there is not a problem, with the fuz, it is so easy , Sh.t I did,  Phasesof the moon????.........Barry
  4. AL, Tip # 3 When sheeting the fin with soft balsa, only sheet to 1/2 off the rudder post thickness, then add 0.8 liteply strips to  "over hang the rear off the post by at least 8 mm, reason, the rudder has to turn inside that aera,
  5. Alistair,no, I have tried many avenues, without success, Now what I am relating to (planwise) is P.  Wilsons version , The fuz, can be built off the plan, it is in the usual buiding form as in1/2 formers layed out on a flat baord and fitting the top and bottom stringers (there is another word for them) anyway the best thing about it that you can leave out the battery trays and assoc. woodwork, which leaves a great cavonus empty fuz , add a few more stringers preverably light hardwood / hard balasa around the fuz side, before removing, semi plank the 1/2 side, remember to add the tailpost , your choice of tailwheel setup, and the mini servo's  in the "fin" for the rudder and elevator (no rods or messy cranks) remove and then turn the plan over and on a sheet of glass( get the missus/girlfriend )to hold against a window,  draw the outline and all other points of interest on the "back side of the sheet" easy eh. complete  that 1/2 of the fuz and There you have it, TIPS, don't plank the whole side at once, do only what is necessary to keep the shape, add all the rest after joining the 2 1/2s together you will need to add some wing seating strength, that is easy to do but hard to describe..Pic's will help .... once assembled there is stacks of room inside the fus to add all the "scale" detail you want, BUT first you have to get the PLAN,  TIP, if you are going to "scan or photo copy formers or ribs , check aginst plan after because over a long distance some reproductions differ.   as for wing and assoc,  I will "post some Pic's  and go into more detail.     Long??? Al. started this in 2001, then bought a "poulty farm" (small) out of it now.     Barry
  6. Mike ing, have you had any success yet??ignore the the otherwise helpless "quircks", Barry
  7. To add to what Doug said, if it is a test stand, turn the engine around ( 180deg) and see if the sme cyl. are still not firing,( is there "tappet adj"?), likewise in the model, see what happens. Barry
  8. Well, it's been a while trying to get this project together, ( actualy, 2 yrs) since the "pick a plane" I have received 2 other plans, of the"Whirly", let me say this , that it is "builder's model", IF you want to get IT right, Some points that I have found are, the plans that are available, some are an interesting "view" on the plane, the nose outline seems to difer, the nacells also differ along with the "fuzz", depth  at the rear. It seems that some designers have a rather "hit and miss" on the outline of the subject.  Relating to the "incidence " setup, I can only vouch for the fact, that,Gorden Whitehead's version in the RCM (1972) works, and that is "O deg" everything. Pete Wilson's plan is what I have been working off, Yes it's spark driven, but I have modified the wing to suit I.C, if  Mr Boyland's effort had gone to press , we may have seen more of them.there is 2 other"s "out of USA" that I am watching , a 74" and a ( too big for me) 10ft version, nice stuff. If there is enough interest I will further my "thread". , with pic's of "how I have done it.       Ta    Barry
  9. Yes Thanks Erfolg, I have that info, it's on rcu site(USA). good reading!I have ordered a plan from a plan site of Chris Golds version. I built one of his "lanc's" yrs ago using the same method, to me, foam seems easy enuogh, but when the time taken to seal, paper wrap it, get all the crinkles out, then seal it again, paint and fuel proof, I would rather "sheet/ plank, than that method. Weight wise to me, nothing saved, if any thing heavier... Ta   Barry......"soldier on sarg"      PS... here we call them Cyclones, in the Pacific there Tyhpoon's, in USA there Tornado's, in England they are Hurricanes, yea I know, Doz's of them !!
  10. AH yes, the Tyhpoon, But in true British style they did put bandaids, in form of gussets around the rear end to stop it falling off,or was that the Tempest, the H look's like to me , not a co.........., a Bull sea lion, and then the "tailfeathers",could have been "tailflippers". just a thought. Barry
  11. SO the secret "is out", Terry L. You're saying that our forefathers flew a  aircraft designed by a Dairy Farmer, Well I never..... Barry
  12. Erfolg, I  really think  that some of the modeler's ( the say they are) must have a very busy life and are not "looking passed the bush's, to see the tree's". "Searching for info" is what keep's the you involved.  Perhaps the year's we spent on "looking" is not a requirement anymore, as long as you get hand fed, the nesassary item's for use, Who else care's, and as for the H.  ?????????     Barry
  13. THe wife spilt "tea" on the key board, and I lost 1/2 of my letters, well some, got a new one.YES Tony said he would to get a plan in a future issue, of what size or power  plant ? I have not received the Chris Gold's one yet, but for those who are interesed, RC Groups has a lenghty forum on the Whirlwind, thre are some factors that I find, from the report's,that would need to be "addressed, wing profile, alignment of the wing, tailplane and engine's "incidence lines" to that of the datum line,in other words "setting up all for these at 0 deg's, that comes from G Whitehead, in his assestment. Me, I just "listen".....  and some great shot's of the model, (C.Gold's ), and a Weilken, would be great , but for "Info" , I have never tried.... anybody help...... Barry
  14. reply to above,Yea he did, but later! I think there are a feu other. feel the .ame ??? Barry
  15. I need a nu keyboard, thank yu erfolg it i. heartning, Barry
  16. Yes Terry , and  others I did give it a BIG try, "But" it's the time frame "given" and the social stigma with 'well documented" aircraft, that sit in the forefront of  most "staid" minds, Ecconomics also come into "play". How do sell a mag  "special"  in which not may people have seen or heard of the aircraft, 112 against 7500 or so, there was not a lot one can do. I can only point out, to which Tony stated in the mag that " he had / given a "cowl" to which he based  his Typhoon on last year. Many aircraft where " suggest" , Japanese, Russian and all makes of lesser known aircraft, It takes month's, even to redesign, a plan,( i know )even to build, test fly, adj, and then submit  to the "mag" before it even's go to press,  SO, it is going to be a model that the "mag" dosn't have to listen to, to many member's complaining that "that's too hard" and with the less expreienced guy's IT has to made, so the model is almost "idiotproof",  and as for the placing's of the winner's "list", I will just leave it, with"no comment". I hope it is a success, and as I said in one of my earlier "thread's Tony, I will pursue on the matter about a "Whirlwind"........... David , Thank's....  and to TEX's "it really was a great effort you put in",     Barry
  17. Can anybody tell me, how to build the "rails " for "fowler Flaps " that don't "bind", Yes The Whirlwind"  thank you,.... Barry
  18. Thank you Chris S.  Yes it is a P. Wilson's, which I have redesgined the complete wing and necales, to accomodate  2 x T T 54 four strokes, with fowler flaps and retract u/c........Now,....  that's 4 plans I have, But  3 are electric, I will take all of their idea's.... at least I won't have to manufacture spinners,..... Barry
  19. Erfolg, do you have a contact or a "address" for Chris Gold, or a plan no #. of the "Whirlwind", that you mentioned in a previous "thread" ?????????????.... If you do, or anyone else, My email address, is [email protected]  Thank you, Barry  (and yes I know about the one in Traplet, modifying it now)
  20. JUST a short note to ALL, thanks for those who took the time to vote for the Whirlwind, I have enjoyed the hrs, one finger punching the keyboard, AND THEN GOING OVER IT TIME AFTER TIME , cause iv'e  GOT big fingers,  Again THANKS >>>>>>>>>I'LL be BAACCK  Regards, Barry
