  1. Oh well, guess I will be programming the models from scratch then. Thanks for the feedback though guys.
  2. Hi, I've just bought a JR XG14 and would like to transfer some of the models I have currently stored in my DSX9. I thought I was getting somewhere having delved into both menu systems but I get a data error when I initiate the transfer. Has anyone managed to successfully do this or are the two transmitters data streams completely different? Many thanks Ed
  3. Just a reminder that it is our clubs Scale day this coming Sunday. All disciplines welcome, with emphasis on WW1 this year to commemorate the centenary (though not compulsory). Please contact us beforehand if planning to fly a turbine. A low key, friendly event held near East Hanney in Oxfordshire. Our club field benefits from open fields all around with a mown patch of roughly 70m square. There will be a BBQ at lunchtime and commentary through the day. A cert required to fly solo, B cert for models over 7kg and any turbines.

  6. Hmm... It is smooth but definitely soft. Yep, made sure if was seated through the plastic surround and the spring is fitted. With regard to the spring, it's not shown on the exploded diagram so I fitted it with the larger end within the recess in the carb body and the smaller end against the diaphragm, is that correct?
  7. Hi, sorry for the delay in replying but time seems to slip by very quickly at the moment. I've stripped and cleaned the carb and checked the diaphragm for tears but nothing seems to be evident. I have replaced all of the engines fuel piping as a precaution as well and I'm just waiting on some m4 hex head bolts before I refit it to the model and try again. One question though, when trying the test described above for the regulator I'm not sure if what I am hearing is right! If I blow fairly gently I just get a hissing in the carb throat, if I blow quite hard there is a fairly quiet sound that I can only describe as similar to when you blow on a bit of paper end on, like a very small trumpet I guess..... Is that what I should be heading from the regulator? Edited By Ed Darter on 13/05/2014 21:17:48
  8. I have a 37 and its great. Needs a new bearing thanks to a crash but it revved VERY nicely with plenty of power, reliable tickover and an easy starter. IMHO better than the JEN that replaced it!
  9. Thanks guys, I shall have another go with it tomorrow. Haven't changed that breather pipe so that will be the first thing to look at. Hope it's not the regulator, a new carb body is not a cheap fix!
  10. Ew, what wingspan is this? I've just built the starmax one but there are no control throws in the manual. Is is comparable size I could use your settings as a starting point!
  11. Hi, I'm looking for some advice on an issue I'm having with an OS120 fs pumped engine, I believe series 3 as the pump is plastic. I bought it second hand from a friend a couple of years ago, he had it running fine in a model before laying it up and eventually selling it to me. I've finally got round to fitting it in my intended model but I cannot get the bottom end set right. Brand new model (seagul zlin z50), fuel tank and pipework.top end set fine after initially being a bit rich. I can get the engine to idle ok and transition fine but the idle was quite 'poppy' almost lumpy I guess. Opening throttle and it transitions ok but there is quite a puff of smoke as though its rich. The other such is a fairly significant drop in rpm when I remove the glow clip. Pointing the nose of the model in the air sees the tick over drop and the engine dies after a few seconds. Leaning it out sees an appreciable increase in tick over rpm off the glow clip and a much cleaner tick over, transition still nice but still a bit of smoke during transition. Once again though, holding the nose of the model high has the engine die in a few seconds. I kept leaning it out but got to the point where the engine would not start before the model would idle nose high. I basically spent 3 hours chasing the bottom end setup with no joy. Changed the plug (os fs no4) but no difference. Fuel is optifuel 12%. The other symptom it developed during my fiddling was that almost every time I applied the starter the engine would bounce on compression coughing a fine must out of the carb. The way I found to stop this was to turn the engine over a few times backwards by hand before energising the glow and applying the starter, not sure if that's normal or another clue , my saito 82a doesn't do it though. I'm wondering if there is a problem with the pump diaphragm or something, doesn't look as though there are service parts though, just replace the pump but @ £50+ I would like to be sure before committing! One last thing, the tank is set up with a breather rather than the non pumped version which would have a pressure line from the exhaust to the tank.  Thanks Ed Edited By Ed Darter on 01/05/2014 21:35:49 Edited By Ed Darter on 01/05/2014 21:39:32
  12. Thanks both. Not my first EDF Andy, I have a Habu (Grey foam version) and a Starmax Panther. Not flown the Habu much but love the Panther. Though its currently grounded due to the fan disintegrating on launch the other week. Unfortunately it took the motor and the servo lead to the elevator with it so the model may be a write off. Not decided yet so have put it to one side and got the Phantom built. Thanks for the tips though, I suspect its going to be a twitchier model than the Panther so the heads up is duly noted! Sounds like the colour scheme is the same as well, Must admit that did occur to me once it was assembled. Small model, travelling fast in cammo colours, what could possibly go wrong!! Thanks Ed
  13. Hi, Hoping someone can help! I'm building the above model but there is no mention of control throws in the manual. A search of the Web shows a few reviews etc but no mention of throws anywhere! Has anyone build and successfully flown one of these? And if so what were the control throws? Many thanks Ed
  14. well about 1/2hr after I posted this the site in question refreshed with a stock alert. Order placed!
  15. Blimey - converting Picolos to separates is a blast from the past! Not sure if this is still useful / needed: When I did it I used a 10A main esc and a 5A tail esc and a PG03 gyro. But I very soon started on the brushless conversion route as well (for the main rotor anyway). That consisted of converting an old CD Rom drive motor, very straight forward and a massive jump in performance due to being more efficient and much lighter than the 310 motor. My Picolo was powered by a 2 cell 1200mAH lipo and easily flew for 25 minutes! For TX setup, just make sure its in heli mode and the TX should take care of the rudder mixing for you. You may find that arming the tail esc is a problem though, and thats usually solved by moving the rudder stick to one end of its travel, this is due to the esc not seeing 0% with the stick centred and potentially not arming because of this. Then you can play with revolution mixing in the TX to fine tune the tail to the main rotor through the whole throttle range, assuming you don't have a heading hold gyro.
