  3. Yeah, will be sad to see the VC10s go, have grown up with them, still remember them all parked at RAF Abingdon all those years ago! Keep promising myself a trip to one of the photo vantage points round Brize but never got round to it yet. I fly at north berks near hanney / grove. There is a Witney club I believe but I think they are restricted to electric only. You are more than welcome to come and see if our club takes your fancy....
  4. Ah, not far from me then (Abingdon) often see the C17s about. always enjoy watching them... and the many other movements at Brize. anyway.... don't want to be hijacking this thread! hope you get the replacement airframe soon.
  5. Are you based at Brize currently then James?Edited By Ed Darter on 30/05/2011 09:26:24
  6. Hi Roger, Yes - it took a while with other projects coming and going in the meantime! Was very windy when I flew it but the initial impression was very good indeed.   Internal silencer worked a treat, hopefully will continue to do so on warmer days as well. If she goes well this season i'm tempted to strip the covering over the winter, fully sheet the wings and recover with more scale detail. Not decided yet and another project may well take my fancy in the meantime (really want a bigish Vulcan!) Ed
  7. Hi Craig, The optifuel I use is about ?17 a gallon I think so not the most expensive, especially given its 12% nitro. Must point out though I don't use this fuel because of the rcv's, they are pretty tolerant fuel wise and the optifuel is good in both 2 and 4st engines. rcv's should be just fine by following similar fuel choice as any other 4st. With regard to running cost, they are actually cheaper I think, no servicing of valve clearances etc. Haven't used flexing pipes at all, knuckle joint on the manifold then the rcv extension pipe on that with the muffler attached to that as normal. Have been lucky on both occasions in that this just allows the end of the muffler to poke out from the cowls.
  8. very nice! does it need a bungee ? that does sound quite light and I would have thought a hand launch may be doable...
  9. Like BEB I have two, the 58CD in my SE5A and now in my Spitfire the 91CD (though this is very new so too early to say its been reliable (though it has up to now) Both do very well and BEB hit the nail on the head when he listed the do's and don'ts. I put a couple of large tank fulls through mine before fitting and flying them rich. It takes between 5-10 tank fulls for them to develop full power but they are perfectly useable before that. I use Optifuel with mine and both are fitted with the JEN right angled knuckle straight out of the head to keep the silencers within the cowls.   I actually quite like the noise they make, a lower frequency noise than other 4 strokes, but that is I guess a matter of personal taste.   As Alan mentioned, YT used them in their demo models for quite a while and the 91CD hauled Richard Scarbroughs 13lb Mustang along at a very healthy rate of knots at several of my clubs scale days. Its this that convinced me to use the 91 in my Kyosho Spitfire 90. Ed
  10. Kingslynn models currently doing the Habu BNF for £134.... bargain!
  11. I thought it was to run them a bit rich with bursts of full power as they rely on everything bedding in at operating temperature, but I am sure someone will come along shortly with a definitive answer (or two!)
  12. 40FP is a classic, not the most powerful but very reliable!
  13. thanks guys, very happy with it, but haven't had a chance to fly it since the maiden so really itching to get out there again!   Timbo - that Go 'n Glow is brilliant. I will definately do another one if I can get all the bits and not having to attach a glow stick to start it is really nice! all controlled via a spare channel on the TX   Planning to campaign it for the rest of the season and then maybe upgrade it a bit over the winter, remove all the covering and glass cloth it, few more scale details, better retracts etc. Not made my mind up yet though....
  14. Well its taken 2-3 years on and off.... a few other projects started and finished while this one ticked along in the background but I have finally flown my Spitfire. What a peach of a model this is to fly!! all it needed was a couple of clicks of down elevator to see straight nd level, but the conditions were a bit blowy so this may need refining once flown in better weather.   Though not a build blog as such I thought I would post a few pictures and list the specs. More photos can be found in my gallery.   Spec: Weight - 10lb RCV91CD with a JEN 90 degree knuckle joint on the exhaust Spektrum AR9000 & satellite RX fitted Go 'n glow fitted, home made with parts provided by Timbo (this works a treat!) 2 x Eneloop 4.8v packs. One for primary controls, 1 for U/C & flaps 1 x Puffin Hi Flo 4Ah NiMH for go n' glow   mods made: cockpit floor dropped for better fitting of a scale pilot. basic cockpit scale details added such as instrument panel instrument panel has LED's for the satellite RX and go 'n glow Beefing up of bulkhead etc radio mast removable for transportation home made control horns used so as to not need to spoil top surfaces of control surfaces weathering throughout airframe, sealed in with a dusting of fighter aces satin laquer. pushrods to tail surfaces made from CF tubes with wire bound at both ends. Exhaust exits opened up to help airflow and minimise hacking of the cowl.
