Ottawa, Canada www.modelsolutions.ca  Jack, Toronto
  2. Hi Mario, your welcome, I suspect that with the ailerons hinged at the top HP built in differential so that they had more movement up than down. I'm planning to go down and see the plane again up close but it will be two or three weeks before I can do that. shortly before I go I will let you know so you can make a list of items you need photographed. Jack.
  3. Hi Mario, I am attaching two photographs that may help you. One shows the aileron mechanism and you can see the curvature which is quiet gentle. The other is the aileron and you can see that there is virtually no space between the wing and the aileron. I have a friend on the base who will try to get better pictures. In the meantime these may help you.  Jack, Toronto

  6. Hi Jim, don't be confused by the term "Blue Foam". It's really a High Density Expanded Polystyrene foam used to insulate walls and floors. The colour blue is a Dow Chemical product to distinguish it from its main competition Owens Corning who colour theirs pink. That's in North America. Both are identical for our purposes. If you ask B&Q for a high density foam they should have something similar regardless of colour. I think Dow UK call theirs "Styrofoam". The thing is it needs to be very dense and not like packing foam which has visible beads and and is soft and pliable. When you cut into it it should look as dense as a meat tray or Depron.  I use either pink or blue and I buy them in 2" thick sheets 8' x 2'. They cost about 13 Pound Sterling. They make great tops for work benches as well as fill for models.  Good luck. Jack. Toronto. Edited By Papa on 17/08/2010 03:18:44
  7. Hi all, for those of you considering going electric but pine for that ic sound here's a possible solution. There is a company here in Canada that make sound systems for aircraft. It is a small company run by a David Harrison. Tim Mackey, the Forum Moderator, installed one in his Sopwith Camel and was very complimentary. The company is Model Solutions of Canada Ltd. www.modelsolutions.ca  I asked him if he had any sounds for a Bristol Hercules and after some research he sent me some sample sounds.  I don't know how to copy the clip for you but here is the YouTube original he used to create the sound. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQZOc49ezX0 Would you all love to have that sound coming out of your Halifax. I asked him for some idea of cost and this was his reply. The cost would be as follows :   1 x SFX6.4 sound module - regular price CAD$199.95 - sale price (Ends today) CAD$169.95 2 x 4", 20Watt 4 Ohm loudspeakers - regular price CAD$22.95 - sale price (Ends today) CAD$19.95 Shipping to Toronto CAD$25.00 fully insured and tracked.   You can also purchase optional switched outputs at CAD$8.00 each (up to four) for flashing ultra bright LEDs in the gun ports. These would flash in sync. with the machine gun and/or cannon fire. One output is sufficient for the Halifax as they had only MG's, no cannon. You can wire multiple LEDs in series and can connect the series chain to the one output. We also can supply ultra bright power LEDs - see our LEDs page for prices - http://www.modelsolutions.ca/catalog_leds.htm.  His 4" speakers are 1.4" deep and would fit in the wings without problem. I'm sure that if a group of you decided to make a bulk purchase he would drop the price considerably. Jack, Toronto
  8. Peter in the Tailwind plan you mention  solder to F2. I'm assuming you mean solder the copper wire together on both sides of the former? Jack Higgins.
  9. Hi Guys, looking forward to this blog anticipating it will be every bit as enlightening as the Lysander blog. Here's some pictures and facts that was just put up in April, Some of you may have seen it but it is interesting. http://anonymous-generaltopics.blogspot.com/2010/04/handley-page-halifax.html Jack, Toronto.

  11. Looking very good, I like the way you did the raised bumps over the cylinder heads. The grey in the photographs is the dark green washed out by the flash. The colour is quiet dark. jack.
  12. Hi MTM,There is a Tamiya paint called AS30 Dark Green 2 (RAF) that looks to be a very close match. I plan to finish mine in a semi-gloss or satin black and use masking tape for the stripes finishing with a semi-gloss or satin yellow sprayed all over. Thus for me it will be black first and yellow next. Bear in mind there was no real standard colour. maintenance used whatever was to hand, so close should be fine. Jack, Toronto
  13. Hi Guys, for those of you just starting on the Halifax build here is a link to some good detailed shots of the restoration of the Halifax here in Canada. It's a Mark B Vll not a Mark B lll. You can use many of the shots for detail as it is similar to the Mark lll. It remains the only authentic restored Halifax. Much has been done since these photos were taken. Jack.  http://www.ipmslondon.ca/old%20site/ipmslondon.tripod.com/referencearticles/id42.html
  14. Thank you Graham,  When I receive a lot of wood such as a CNC pack I like to let it acclimatize to the conditions in my work shop for a week or so. I think this helps to avoid warping when you free the laser and routed pieces from their sheets. Jack, Toronto.
  15. What is the diameter of the amin wheels? Jack.
  16. Out here in the Colonies we have not had our July issue yet, should be here next week if I'm lucky. The beauty of the digital version is I can read an article that is the subject of a forum and understand what the issue is. In the past I had to wait until I read the real thing a month later for the penny to drop. Keep on with the improvements you are doing a great job. Jack Higgins, Toronto. 17. Hi Timbo, I have a similar soldering station but I used the mica element forms from an old toaster and it avoids burning the plywood. You can screw them to the plywood and solder directly on the mica. An old trick from old school plumbers is to keep a piece of heavy canvas such as denim and keep it saturated in one spot with flux paste. Use that spot to clean the tips of the soldering iron or to rub down a solder joint when using a torch.  Jack.
  18. Hi Peter, I live in Toronto and I bought it at a local Automotive / Hardware store. You should be able to buy similar in any DIY or a craft shop although the later maybe expensive. Jack.
  19. Most places will sell an 80watt iron for stained glass work. Mine cost $34 Cdn. They come with two large mass chisel tips, 3/8" and 1/4". The beauty of this is you have instant melting and the iron is on the work for a second or so. I don't burn insulation any more and the wires do not become over heated. I use the 1/4" for most jobs and the big one for battery work.  I know this is sacrilege but I use acid flux on heavy battery wires before I tin them. This helps the solder flow throughout the wiring. I figure that the model will be long gone before any corrosion has a chance to set in. It reduces my frustration trying to get a good tinning before I join the pieces, that's my rationalization anyway.  Jack..
  20. Hi Mario, it's Jack in Toronto. We are fortunate here in having a Halifax in our Air Force Museum. It's about an hour and a half from me so if you need photos just ask. Here's a link http://airforcemuseum.ca/en/aircraft/aircraft/halifax Jack. Edited By Papa on 10/06/2010 23:17:18 Edited By Papa on 10/06/2010 23:17:30
  21. I was hoping the Free Plan would be the Halifax. Oh well I'll just have to buy the complete kit. I have to say that you and Graham and all your staff are putting out the best, by far, RC magazine anywhere anytime. I know you stand on the shoulders of great editors of the past but believe me you both are right up there with the best. Every time I think there is no room for further improvement a new issue arrives and it's better than the ones before.  One thing I would like to see is an article giving the future as manufacturers see it. What's coming down the pipe for us? I believe many where caught off guard by the appearance of the Vapour and what it has done for indoor flying. What's the next revolution?  Good luck to you both. Jack Higgins, Toronto.

  23. Well done! That was the most genuine smile of happiness I've ever seen. Richly deserved. Jack, Toronto.
  24. Good Job Mario,  Have you checked out Tony's latest offering of the Mark lll Halifax. We are very fortunate here in Toronto to have access to the only Halifax in North America located east of here about an hour away. Here's a link.  http://airforcemuseum.ca/en/exhibits/the-story-of-halifax-na337-2p-x-part-1-of-5 I can get photos of panel lines and the cockpit for you????   By the way. I have used MS Publisher to put all the relevant information in the Lysander build forum into a set of chapters such as fuselage etc. This makes it easy to look up information and to keep handy when I reach each build phase. Jack.
  25. Nice work Supermario!  Look how well the camouflage works. Both you and Terry are in a class of your own and the rest of us are very fortunate to have you set the bar so we can strive to achieve such realism. Thank you for sharing your collective wisdom and experience. Looking forward to airborne shots from you both. Isn't this a wonderful Hobby? Jack,Toronto.
