  1. what is Mylar exactly ( strength wise ? and is it expensive ?
  2. Do you think the Corsair would make a good conversion to micro RC ? Hopefully it would be a bit more of a slower model ?
  3. Hello David , thanks for the reply . Im just begining to get back into modeling again having just bought a balsa build Warhawk P40 18" wingspan which Im finding challenging but only because the fuselage frame is very easily broken if youre not too carefull . This is just going to be a static model covered mainly in 0.8mm basswood and or balsa to give it some rigidity and hopefully finish with a decent paint job . Now to actual flying , I am looking at buying a Dumas Vaught Corsair kit ( round about an 18" wingspan ) rubber powered but need to know a few questions : Your post said you have converted some to electric which I would be quite interested in doing ( especially the Corsair ) but Im also aware of the weight restrictions when making these smaller builds . Is it possible to adjust the models to add some strength to certain areas obviously taking into account the COG . iIs it possible to cover these smaller models in polyester or silk for added strength and durability or would this add too much weight ? Thanks
  4. Hello , Anyone on here had / have any experience with some of the balsa kits from Vintage Model Company models used as small park flyers ? In particular : Sopwith Camel 16" Supermarine Spitfire 18" Vought Corsair 18" If so any particular flying attributes to any of the above models ?
  5. Not ever having tried / attempted rubber band freeflight models can I ask what to you is probably an obvious question....But is it only really necessary to have a rudder steerage only and set it so that the aircraft revolves in a given circle ? How is the rudder fixed in that position ?
  6. Ive also got enough supply of 1cm width very thin cherry or tulip wood ( cant remember) from a previous project which proved very flexible and pliable especially when wetted slightly which may or may not do the job . Ive only ever once tissued and doped a model plane and have always prefered natural materials , but I will see what happens , but thanks for all your advice .
  7. im not an expert but for a static model surely thin 0.8mm baksa or basswood could surely cover most of the model , treated appropriately and finished off with a nice paint job ?
  8. Its just that I wanted to make the static model a little more robust to help resist any knocks or damage . i havnt ruled out tissue and dope method , just looking at alternatives , thanks .
  9. To get a rubber powered freeflight to fly in a given area circle and land like this one , do you have to make any adjustments when making the model , ie Trimming ?
  10. Thanks for your reply leccyflyer , it was only a thought so if it doesnt work then onto 0.8 mm basswood option as its for a static model only
  11. Thanks for your reply GG , certainly something to consider !
  12. Know what youre saying regarding wrinkles as it could be a problem . This is for a static model so weather wouldnt really come into it . Thanks for your reply though .
