  2. **LINK** good quality, easy to install, loud enough and a good price. I have this installed on this
  3. Hobbyking (UK) have a number of 90 and 120mm fans with 9+ blades. As mentioned before Puffin Models sell the Wemotec Evo Midi (90mm) fans, these are 11 bladed, sound jet like and more importantly are not Amp hungry; both Lander and Change Sun pull a lot more Amps.....bigger lipo, more weight etc... Not good for EDF. I would recommend the Wemotec Evo Midi fans. If the intake FSA is bigger than 90mm, that ok. You just need to make sure the outlet is about 90 to 76mm diameter, depending if you want static trust or higher speed. If you don't mind me asking, what's it for? Some older designs for 90 and 110mm could fly on today's 90 or even 76mm set ups. i have 90mm set ups with over 3000w of power in planes originally designed for IC DF units. 4. Until recently very regular and low level V22 Osprey, Chinook, UH60 Blackhawk, Apache and that's just the Helis, but that's a different story. Now the occasional light aircraft.
  5. Just realised by my own post, there seems to be little logic to my fleet variety, a mix of all types of planes and power systems. I even fly on both Futaba ( all less BnF) and Spektrum. And although I have a lot of electric planes, I hate the time consumption of charging all those batteries and prefer IC. I guess I have a 'rounded mix' for whether I'm in a hooligan mood (the overpowed WOT4 or Habu) or happy to potter around with the WW1 fighters.
  6. John, I fear you are right! my fleet has changed a little since I posted, and I'm trying to minimise ( although for some sub conscious reason, that equates to more models) listing, so I can remember ( on order of how they hang in the workshop): Balsa USA 1/4 scale Nieuport 11 - 26 cc petrol Balsa USA 1/6 scale Bristol M1 - electric with sound system WOT 4 - 52 2 stroke Eflite Advance 25 - electric H9 Denight Special - 46 2 stroke Parkzone Habu 2 Parkzone F4F Wildcat Parkzone Inverza 280 Jepe F100 90mm EDF SAS Wildthing Multiplex Twister EDF and on the project board - RBC Kits Gloster E28/39 jet for new 90mm Wemotec Evo fan. oh and Helis: Raptor 30 and Blade MSRX
  7. and this is next on this is next on the board for the summer and RBC kits Gloster E28/39 to be powered by a 90mm 11 Blade Wemotec fan on 6S. It will be much better than the one i built 8 years ago (lots more build experience and tips since then)
  8. A fair few, but some i'm not counting, like EFlite Inverza 280- sprightly little thing! 2 Build finishes, ready for return back to my old club in Wiltshire;
  9. Like others i have a Spektrum DX6i (DSMX) for Parkzone BNF stuff ( MSRX, Inverza 280 and F4F Wildcat). For some reason (not bothered changing over) i also have my Raptor 30 on Speccy. However, I many fly larger IC, petrol and electrics on Futaba (T8J); never had a problem. I was considereding a switch to just one system and getting a Spektrum DX9, but the cost of getting new RXs for all my Futaba planes put me off.
  10. My old top flite contender 60. Sold to a guy in my club, whilst I was based in the US. I plan to build another in the spring, a lovely flying plane.
  11. No question is a stupid question if you have to ask it. Calculation is very simple and made easier by using a wattmeter ( a must have tool if you fly electric, and cheap too). The basic formula is: (battery capacity/average current consumption) x 60 = flight time in minutes. First to calulate predicted Amp draw we simply divide the power (Watts) by the voltage (V). for a setup that uses a 3S Lipo (lets make it easy and call this 11v) and generates 400watts of power, The current drawn is 37A. current consumption is 37A. Now if our Lipo is a 4200mah 3S, then that 4.2 Ahr. So the calculation is: 4.2/37 x 60 = 6.93 minutes When using your wattmeter, you will also notice that 70% throttle actually draws about 1/2 the Amps of full throttle, so if flying around at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle, you can add another 50% to this flight time. Therefore, adding 50% gives us a flight time of about 10 mins. Obviously, a wattmeter gives you actual Amps, Watts and Voltage (since the battery Volts will sag a bit when pulling higher currents from the Lipo). One can add many disclaimers here. For example, it does not take into account efficiency or where your LVC (low voltage cutoff) is set. But, assuming you fly until the battery pack voltage is down to the lowest safe level, this will give you a very rough estimate of flight time. Ideally, you should use no more than 80% of the battery's capacity, so really your 4200mah Lipo should be considered as a 3360mah Lipo, if you want a good long life for your hard worked Lipos. Your flight time will be fine tuned over a few flights, as you may draw more or less Amps dependant upon flying style, efficiency of your motor and C rating of your Lipo. Your charger will then show how many mAh you have put back into the Lipo when you charge it back up. Hope that helps. I use my own excel based database and calcuator to work all this out before selecting the right ESC and Lipo, so i know what to expect when hooking up the wattmeter and don't end up buying the wrong stuff. There are lots of useful calculators on the web and this site has a good EP set up database of other peoples successful setups.
  12. my parkzone f4f wildcat flys very well in 10mph winds.
  13. You might find it too powerful, I have Balsa USA 1/4 scale Nieuport 11c and it flys at les than 1/2 throttle on an RCGF 26cc petrol engine. Picture taken a few months ago before weathering etc.
  14. Totally frowned up, but really effective and widely used, Coca Cola (proper branded) has been used to clean really carbonised weapons in the military; you wouldn't believe how effective it can be - all that sugar. parts are soaked in it. Never tried it on engines (just remembered), but it might be worth giving that a try and it not abbressive in the sense of leaving scuffs, nor will it discolour or deoxidise the aluminium.
  15. Firstly mount your motor inside the EDF shroud, remember to use a bit of locktite on the screws. Next you should find the threaded adaptor that slides over your motor shaft and then is held in place by compression, once the fan is installed and the bolt tightened up. Normally the threaded part of the shaft also has an internal thread, usually about 2mm. the domed 'spinner' is then fitted onto the fan and held in place with a small bolt passing through the dome and threading into this internal thread on the adaptor shaft. This link shows you what i mean, albeit not your fan unit and uses a locking grub screw rather than compression, but principle is exactly the same. Does this help?
  16. I've flown a fair number of EDFs, 70 and 90mm from foam to full composite F-100. Current enjoying a HABU 2, which i bought as airframe only and added my own electrics, Multiplex twister (slow, but a good 1st flight intro on a morning) and just building my 5 1/2 foot F-100 on a 90mm. There are many more on here with far more knowledge, if you let us know what yur plan is and how you want it set up, we can help you/guide you through. Happy to help.
  17. Since the last time i posted, its increased! TN Mossie still just a basic unshaped fuselage,but have most of the CNC parts to finish, its just lost inspiration. FlyFly 90mm EDF F-100. Much, Much bigger that i thought. Just finished lightweight filler, rubbing down and done 2 coats of PolyC over 25g glassfibre. Will be a long build, Jepe Fast Foam style, but soon to be interupted with 4 months away. Ziroli Turbinator fuse is complete, just need to cut wing ribs and make up tail and fin. This is on the shelf, just in case  the Habu2 is recycled. Habu 2 has been completed with retracts, but awaits maiden. Rebuilt 1/4 scale Nieuport 11 still needs petrol engine retuning (after changing carb) and re-maidening. WOT4, Bristol M1c, Multiplex Twister, EFlite Advance 25, H9 Denight Special and cherub glider all flying. Wildthing is ready, but need some hills! NO MORE, well apart from PKZ F4F wildcat replacement airframe, to replace one i sold whilst living in the US, i really liked that plane. Seem to have mostly electric now, with only WOT4 glow and 2 petrols (Denight Special and Nieuport) Edited By Reno Racer on 31/07/2013 10:34:03
  18. Agreed. I always order from SMC, they happily deliver to BFPO addresses tax free; many other shops can't be bothered with the hassle. SMC do, so their customer support..... well wins customers! They also have some great offers. One of these days, i'll have to call in to their 'real' shop. Edited By Reno Racer on 09/07/2013 19:12:09
