  1. Most of todays ic engines are very reliable when set up correctley so its down to personal choise. I have a yak fitted with a 32cc petrol but i am not keen on the note from the engine so i am thinking of changing it for a nice 4 stroke lump which will be more expensive to buy and run but in my opinion will sound so much better. you pays your money and you takes your chance !
  2. Looks great , nice job. But the name is asking for trouble. How about ," WOT ELSE" Dont forget to let us know how it flys.
  3. Hi Jay, I would use foam insulation sheets, and install a couple of tube heaters which are cheap to run and can be safely left on for the winter months to keep damp and freezing temperatures at bay. I have just started building a workshop at home and this is what i intend to do , don,t skimp on insuation and it will pay dividends when you want to work on a cold day .
  4. Hi , They are both 60" span and i can just about get one into my vectra so i dont need to strip them down . Cheers. Les
  5. Hi Folks, I also love biplanes . Here,s a pic of my pups which are both many years old. I bought them a couple of years ago from a gent in south wales and have installed new radio in both and a new asp 61fs in one . The other plane is still using its original Merco 61 2 stroke which starts and runs brilliantly, the second picture is this plane coming in to land . All the covering is original and looks better for it as it needs no artificial weathering. Both planes fly very well and look rearly good in the air.
  6. Hi Marky, i may be mistaken but your plane looks like a President Low Boy .
  7. Hi Alan . Reference your question about servos, i used futaba 148s all round and find them up to the job. Just make sure you have a servo handy when making the servo mounts in the wing, that way you can recess the servos and be sure to have enough movement without binding the links on the wing. Do make sure to use solid links every where except the throttle link where a snake will be fine. Most important ...............Have fun regards ............les @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  8. Hi Richard; The wheels i have used are about 70mm and look and work fine , my plate undercarriage was from a swap meet and cost one pound. Your local model shop should have something ( i have a plastic one on my acrowot which cost about a fiver.   Regards .....les @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  9. Hi Mystrifried,   Ive, had a look at the link and like me you have chosen this as a first build, i hope you have as much fun as i have had.. There is a small problem with the wing not fitting the fus but i recessed the wing trailing edge and it works fine. I used the cnc woodpack and it was all fine. As a first build there were probably a few things i could have done better but it came out the right shape and size and flies well so i,m happy . The message hear is enjoy the build and the satisfaction when it flies makes it worthwhile. I set FI and F2 as the plan and my 8oz tank fitted fine ,and with the asp 61 c of g was no problem . Dont forget to add some pics with your posts . ( beware, this balsa bashing is infectious)   cheers, les @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  10. All finished , well pleased with my Jitterbug here is a short clip of the plane in flight , powered by ASP 61 four stroke and guidance by DX8 .         @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);Edited By Tim Mackey - Administrator on 07/08/2011 09:31:59
  11. Hi all . Dont forget this is a free plan and a little poetic licence during the build is part of the fun and the challenge of turning a pile of wood into something that looks like a plane and flies like a plane. I did have to recess the trailing edge of the wing but i dont think it will have any effect on the flying . Mine is covered now and i hope to get time to fit it out soon. @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  12.   Getting there slowly. Planning to use ASP 61 from worn out pc9 , i think it should give enough grunt to allow me to enjoy flying . All i have to do is decide on a nice simple colour scheme.
  13. Hi folks. I decided to go for the Jitterbug as a first build and so far i have an airframe ready for covering. I have thoroughly enjoyed the build and it looks like i may have joined the ranks of the balsa bashers. Thanks for the plan Alex , i hope the covering works as well as the build. @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  14. I use fairy power spray , just leave it on for ten minuets or give stubborn areas a bit of help by rubbing with an old toothbrush. les @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
