  1. "Incidentally I thought it remiss of Spektrum to go on and on about the charger plug polarity, but not mention that a std Tx charger is the wrong voltage!"

Good point but then again my 35 Tx is a Multiplex with a 6 cell battery so I never use a standard Tx charger

  2. My LMS doesn't stock 35 mhz sets anymore, but does have 35 Rx's in stock.

I have both a 2.4 and 35 and can't see me buying any further 35 gear, but then again my Tx is less than 12 months old and I have 7 or 8 35 Rx's.

2.4 is a boon in small electrics.

  3. The battery box in my DX6i seems very secure, I think if I was to take it out and fit a welded pack I'd have more concerns over my modifications than the original battery box.
  4. Timbo, thanks I'd rather use some high quality rechargables than poundshop dry cells. I would be quite happy fitting a welded pack into the Tx but I'm not sure how that would affect the warranty of the equipment.

I must admit that the battery box supplied seems of good quality and the batteries are very secure.

In the instructions Spetrum state that the DX6i sold separately is normally supplied with rechargable NiMH batteries and overnight charger but when sold as part of a RTF set will come with dry cells. It looks like in the UK they decided not to ship with rechargables and charger (maybe to meet the magic < £100 mark).

They state in the manual that optional NiCd or NiMH 1.2 volt AA cells can also be used and then go to great lengths to warn you of the polarity of the charging jack which is different to say futaba. There are no instructions on fitting a welded pack into the Tx, maybe that could be a technical article in RCME in conjunction with Spektrum.

Ironically I'm only using this set in my small electrics at present and I'm using my 35 set in my larger glow and electric planes.

  5. Timbo but the BMFA handbook says that it's OK to use dry cells in the TX and these don't usually come in welded packs. The Spektrum manual says it's OK to replace the dry cells with NiCd's of NiMh's.

Will using the Tx set with non-welded NiMh's invalidate the BMFA insurance, will Horizon Hobbies be responsible in that event as it's included in their manual?

Should RCME be issuing a warning advising people not to fit loose rechargable cells in the DX6i's but continue to use dry cells as advocated by the BMFA?

Mne came back with two free servos to componsate for the postage (£12.60 to Germany),  I understood that the problem was sudden lose of the Tx, so if your problems were that your failsafe (i'm assuming you were using IPD Rx's) cut in that might be a possibility. But if the Tx carried on working then it may have been interference or something else.

Note my Tx had been fine but i sent it off as a precaution.

I also understood that the problem was most apparent in hot humid conditions but MPX decided to recall all sets that could be affected.

  7. I have a 4 cell balance which comes with a JST EHR connector, to charge up my 3s JST XH batteries, I have a 4 to 3 JST EHR adaptor and then a JST EHR to JST XH adaptor, to balance my flight power battery I then have a JST XH to FP adaptor.

I've just got soem 4s JST XH cells and I'm now looking for a 4s JST EHR ro JST XH adaptor, but as most of my batteries are JST XH I mnight just get another charger with JST XH balancer ports.

It's a real pain in the neck.

  8. I converted my twin star (mk1) to Lipo, I used a 3s 3300 mah battery and still had to add a bit of lead to the front. The other problem I had was that it kept throwing the original push on props so i had to buy some prop adaptors.

Flys well though now and I've added an undercarriage, tail dragger, take offs are interesting as there is no airflow over the rudder until it's upto speed so directional control isn't very good. But it takes off easy and flys very well.

If I was building one from new I'd fit brushless motors and separate ESC's so I could mix them with the rudder and get some better ground control

I've just pulled my old twin jet out and tried the 3s lipo in that, not flown it yet but the increase in thrust is quite dramatic, so I'll be giving that a go next.

  9. Latest post from Multiplex UK on another forum, looks like you can have them checked out in the UK, apparently best to phone first to check that they have the required parts etc.

     "Hi.

Following the announcement by Multiplex for the safety recall of all Cockpit Sx and Royal EVO radios purchased between 1st Jan 07 and 1st May 08, arrangements have now been made with our UK service agent to do the service check here in the UK.

    Please return your transmitters to the following address;

    Michael Ridley
    C/O Mainly Planes 'N' Trains
    6 Ashdown Road,
    Chandlers Ford
    Eastleigh, SO 53 5RD

    07708 436163

    [email protected]

UK postage will be compensated for with a Multiplex Nano-S servo, (Value £12.99) to cover the postage cost incurred to get it to Mike.  Return shipping is, of course free. Sets should be away for a minimal period as they are getting priority.

    Thanks for your cooperation.

    Gordon."

Note Germany return address is on the recall notice on the main Multiplex website, if you decide to go that route.

  10. Richard they are only recalling sets sold from Jan 2007 to May 2008, so sets before that aren't included. They talk about a sudden loss of Tx when used under "unfavourable conditions" so i think this points to failure of an electronic component used during this period.
  11. Apparently MPX are going to organise a collect and return service and details should be released last week. It seems its only a very small number that have had a problem but MPX have decided to do the recall.
  12. Just in case anybody was not aware, Multiplex are recalling Evo and SX sets as the below notice.

Product Recall ROYALevo and COCKPIT SX

    Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
the brand name MULTIPLEX for 50 years has stood for high quality, innovative radio-gear for model purposes. Quality,
reliability and functionality were and still are MULTIPLEX standards.

As a result of this philosophy and in conjunction with our quality control management, it has been found that several
transmitters in the ROYALevo and COCKPIT SX series have suffered severe failures when being operated under
unfavourable conditions, and these failures were caused by a few components being of unreliable quality.

This could, in rare and extreme cases, result in a total functionality loss of the transmitter and therefore a loss of
    control of the model (aircraft).

Effected are ROYAL evo and COCKPIT SX radios which were delivered or bought between 01.01.2007 and mid of
    May 2008.

Not affected are radios which were delivered since end of May 2008. These radios are marked „MPX 08/05“
    (Year/Month).

Due to safety reasons, we have decided to ask you to return the radios immediately, directly to Germany, so
they can be checked and overhauled. Please do not use them until they have been overhauled.

We will return your radios as soon as possible.

Please mark your parcel with „ RECALL ROYAL evo /COCKPIT SX “, so we can identify the radios on arrival to
    receive preferential service and overhaul.

We thank you for your understanding with this issue.

As compensation for all the trouble we will perform a free service check (worth 40,- €) for all radios which are sent in to be
    overhauled.

Enquiries please send to: [email protected]

    Best regards
MULTIPLEX Modellsport GmbH & Co. KG
