  1. A Sebart model will answer a lot of your questions... Sukhoi or the Pitts are very nice to fly cheers easy too!
  2. Hi Chris,   This is a Top Flite Spit build by a very talented German guy! My efforts are good enough for me on my model but this is neat idea! Danny I think you can make something simmilar with some glass fibre and cloth for a frame to make it functional manualy by hand for flying and static postions, a better job than mine! Wax the canopy and build up layers of resin and cloth , once dry remove the frame and cut/sand to shape. It gives a more 3d view to the cockpit...   Go on.. as Chris says we have set you a challenge!   Dusty

  6. @ Tim, thanks a lot that saved a few pennys then! Some one has offered me a 5065 so I will give that a go!   Danny,   Now it looks alive with Biggels sat in the office! Is it wise to have the canopy open slighty for flying? Might rip off unless you use screws of something to hold it postion?
  7. Looks about the same Danny, I was just looking at the 4-max purple motors too, have you any experience? They look like the Turnigy just different colour. The weight is no issue (if heavier) as I have 120g of lead up the snout to get the c of g, I am however limited to max 4000mah 6s battery size to fit into the cowling so need to consider staminal as well as power. I would rather have the weight of the motor in all honesty, dimesion specific though to fit into the cowling...   Ok well I will be watching your progress with a hawk eye until I can resolve the motor to my Spit, in the meantime I have another project on the go proving challenging but comming along (1/4 scale Miles Maggie from 3 view drawings)... Its going to be used as a tugger ...   "if only life was easy and we had the time"
  8. Mmm... Ok food for thought!   I have run the motor for approx 30 mins testing - really smooth , cowl off with various props etc. Nothing was over killing, props ballaced, spinner ballanced everything in the green... cool not even warm...   The temprature was approx +3 deg c yesterday, however there was a lack of glue on the magnet's on inspecting ie very clean release so I assume a QC issue?   I was looking at the Turnigy 50-65 SK 380kv to keep the budget onside?   Thanks guys, it really sucked taking the cowling off to take the motor out after promising starts but no results.... blessed it was on the ground so there their must be a fortune of flying hours in this cooky lol!   Dusty
  9. Hi Danny,   Thanks, I removed the motor today and stripped it. 3 magnets had come loose...argh! All is repaired and working but I dont have faith to put the motor back into the Spit and attempt to fly - I would be foolish I think?   I am thinking of a Hacker A50-16s with the 17x10 2 blade, this would make a drop in fit pretty much to the E Power motor, dimensions, power and weight but the piece of mind. What would you do?   Dusty
  10. Looks great Danny,   Well mine was ready for a maiden yesterday before adding some weathering and other final details but distaster struck (well not really). After do the pre flight checks and happy snaps the motor decided to throw magnets whilst taxing out to the runway... Am I blessed that it happened then and not 5m up after take off?   I am not even going to bother fixing the current motor, buy cheap by twise? So I will probably put a Hacker or similar motor in for a bit more reassurance?   Anyway here some happy snaps:   Edited By Dusty on 27/02/2011 07:22:35

  14. No... Hey ho the pc is giving me grief and had to restart, try again!
  15. Hi Danny,   Looks great, dont worry with the big prop as I have settled on the 17" 2 blade for flying and making a 4 blade now for static. The 2 blade looks strange but when the Spit is painted etc it distracts the eye from the larger prop... I am trying to share pics but struggling to upload!   Thanks for the offer on the paint masks, however I am 2 months ahead and have a custom set of masks and waterslide decals on the way from Flightline Graphics which include the maintenance markings.   What size spinner fits the TN Spit out of curiosity?   Dusty
  16. Any update Danny? I am just waiting for my painting masks to arrive so a little more work to do - he says!
  17. Service was great and items were sent quickley to Germany, about 3-4 days! No issues at all! I have seen 5 Star Loc post on this forum before... Knows his glues!
  18. Hey Tony you could have this...   Dad's Beer   Drank herself sober lol....   She is anti model trained now, still likes beer though? Must be a pug?

  21. Hey Danny thats looking mint!   Yes the prototype maybe 8.5lbs, I think a they used a smaller gas guzzler, guys ended up with Saitio 100's and loads of lead weight in the snozzle with the reccomended Robart retracts. I have used the Century Jet ones from Phil at Fighter Aces, heavier probably but hey with a 4 way valve to get the gear moving the right way for the motions is woth the extra few gramms?   I wasnt sure what chartpak tape was so i used this instead, works a treat! The panel inbetween the cockpit and the cowling is pronounced, I used white glue thinned to get more of a effect..   I primed, sanded smooth then applied the panel lines, rivets then primed again before the colour. So many ways to skin a cat? If you glassing using a brass tube sharpended in a soldering iron make nice flush rivets in the skin....   Not long to go
  22. Hi Danny,   Yes mine is the Gold Edition, reading the forums over at RCG the guys putting glow engines in were between 10-11lbs average. 9.5lbs will do it for me with glassing the model also.   Those wing fillets are looking good! Jumping the gun but are you going to rivet the model and do panel lines? I assume so, just interested in seeing your way of applying them.
