  5. Would this problem be the same for brushed motors or is it a brushless issue only?
  6. Went out yesterday afternoon with my trainer to get my eye back in which went fine then maiden'd my 10 year old never been flown Enya four stroke powered Precedent T180. First run up the strip went ok but the speed it lifted off caught me out and too much throw on the elevator nosed her over. No harm done. Wiped the sheep dung off the prop started her up again and with less elevator dial'd in she was off a treat up to about 20ft. Small X wind tipped her right so i corrected left but she kept going right further and further until i was hard over on the sticks.....PANIC.....too late...All happened so fast. Long story short. Fuselage needs the front end stripping out to inspect and repair a crack down the RHS,replace broken side window and a new prop and that fingers crossed should be that, BUT the wing...OMG the wing. Having built it in the traditional way many years ago it breaks my tiny heart to see it lying on the bench in 2 bits....I think its recoverable...just but i'm going to put out an appeal out in the "Wanteds" for another in the mean time,  I won't hold my breat though. I saw SLEC are still producing the T240 so they'll be getting a call too. I've still got all the old plans but a complete new wing seems a bit of a massive job. Worse bit is during the air-crash-investigation i discovered the reason for my whoopsy. I can bearly bring myself to say it and you've probably guessed already so i don't need to mention servo reversing features etc. I'm sure i'd checked and checked again but obviously not well enough. SIGH. If it'd just been uncontrollable i'd have said OK 10 years of moving house and general lack of lovin, storage in damp lofts etc has been too much for the old gal but all that to loose it over a bloomin left/right issue..GRRRRRRRRRRR. I'm even more determined now to rebuild and fly her asap as i know it was such a stupid thing that brought her down. In fact the fuzzy is in the boot ready to go to work with me for stripping at lunch time tomorrow. Weather was nice on Sat though! Thanks for listening. I'm going to bed now to sulk.
  7. I use the website xcweather for the up to date wind speeds just before i go out.......i reckon once its above 13-15mph constant its not really fun for normal fixed wing flying anymore....as for foamys once its above 7mph you're in dodgy ground......then of cors there's wind chill.....5 mins at -1 the other week felt like a lifetime. Moral of the story don't forget your gloves!
  8. Somewhere in your transmitter set up there will be a SERVO REVERSE feature, It all depends on what make Tranny you have?. Sometimes they have switches in the back to reverse each individual one.
  9. The way i look at it is that if the postage is less than the price of the fuel to go to the shop and actually pick it up myself then surely its got to be worth it. No? My neareast (decent) model shop is nearly a 40 mile round trip,,,thats roughly £4 in fuel these days if not more. I would think most people only fly at the weekend usually Sunday and most shops are shut anyway so order your replacement bits Sunday night/Monday morning and even with the dismal postal service we have in this country its normally on the door mat by mid week. If you're one of these people that ALWAYS wants something yesterday then i suggest you plan your life better. Is it Sping-time yet.?
  10. Have a look at Aldi's thurdays (for the19th Feb) special buys this week chaps...there's everything from craft knife sets to little storage boxes, mini engravers ( cheapy dremels) and a creative cutter which i thought might be useful for cutting out roundals etc? I'll be going for a look at least! If you don't like any of those there's some good deals on pancake making stuff...MMMMMMMM.
  11. Mmmm sadly you can't buy from Perkins direct and they tell me the next shipment of noses aren't due in until the end of March....I have found some.....in Australia!! I'll keep trying though.
  12. I've been trying to track spares down for the GWS Beaver but i'm really struggling. Does anyone know of a reliable supplier? Thanks in advance.
  13. Good question Michael I was wondering the very same thing. I've got a Fusion L50b charger which i've been doing some bench tests on this week with my NiCads and some new LiPo's that i've got for my lads new foamy. I've refered to the LiPo charging guide that i found in the forum somewhere and charged up then discharged (using a benchtop drain) and i've come to the conclusion that i'll have to just turn the charger off when it reaches the level i want for storage....i can't find a way of cutting the charger off automatically at the desired level unless i'm being a complete mong and just can't see it on the instructons. Hopefully someone will come to our rescue? I'm very happy with the charger although i was a bit sad it doesn't come with any leads for normal battery charging...ie Nicads etc.
  14. I quite like the idea of Poly-C to protect a GWS Beaver i've just bought for my son...small question i have niggling in my mind though which i'm sure you experienced foamy builders will be able to help me with is will a covering of Poly-C accept an acrylic colour over the top, maybe with a light rub down before?. I read the whole blog and i either missed that or i'm just not seeing it. Very nice model though Phil
  15. I couldn't agree more Gemma that accidents can happen to any of us no matter how much experience we have. My point was that its likely to be the daft minority who aren't club flyers who ultimately ruin it in the end. You can imagine the headlines in the papers about how it's easier to buy a model than it is to buy a gun yet its just as deadly bla bla bla. It really comes down to a question of responsibilty. Something we Brits are great at shouting about but when it comes to it not very good in backing up in a "its not my problem" or a "thats the way it is" kind of way. I would imagine that being club members those guys unlucky enough to be involved in the serious accidents were insured and all were sure their models were airworthy, at least they'd done everything they could/should.(Not having read the report you understand). As you say more people get hurt in stair related incedents but we still go up and down them every day.
  16. I was looking for some footage of a Precedent T180 on you-tube just the other day when i stumbled across a guy who had gunned his T180 down what looked like his local park as the plane gathered speed his son (i pressume) came into shot.....my initial reaction was SH#T!!!......the lad started running and the pilot tried to get off the deck but luck/skill wasn't on his side that day and he hit this poor kid square in the legs.....needless to say that the resulting injuries looked pretty damn sore!!. Now with stupidity like this going on accidents can and will always happen...chances are he wasn't a member of a club and without insurance not that this would've saved this lads legs. Any of us with an ounce of common sense realise that what we do for fun is actually very dangerous especially in the wrong hands. I don't think that a 150cc, 8ft wingspan flying strimmer would be any less dangerous than most gliders in the wrong hands. As Eric so brilliantly puts it "you're still dead!" . We should always minimize the risks especially to others around us and make sure our models are fully airworthy. I've seen some models in the past that are nothing more than 15 year old plane shaped lumps of epoxy with some peices of balsa in between! Call me boring but I refuse to fly along side these people as they clearly have a blatent disregard for anyone else around them. There are thousads of us flying every week without incedent but sadly as is often the case the idiotic minority will i fear eventually spoil it for the rest of us. Be vigilant and if you see something you don't like or that may affect your fun in the future then do something very un-english and speak up, be it to you club rep or whoever. BE RESPONSIBLE!! Other than that is it summer yet, i'm fed up of flying frozen?
  17. Hi Daniel I've still got the set of plans/build instuctions for the T180 (or iat least i think i have in the box in the garage, i'll check later).....i can copy a set off for you if thats any good just let me know the addy you want them sending too.......incedently i'm about to fly mine for the first time having had it for 9 years...only learn't to fly last year with a Boomerang (didn't want to risk the hours and hours of work) and now i feel ready to fly the T180....its become a bit of a family joke that this plane has been transported around for years from house to house but never flown....they don't think it ever will but i'm just about to prove them wrong...i reckon it could make a good camera ship in the future too.
  18. Myron, Do you mean the likes of British Leyland etc?
  19. My Irvine 53 has run like a dream since i fitted it in my Boomerang Trainer and the only issue with it was a blocked fuel inlet, not the engines fault though. I have an Enya 4 stroke fitted inverted in a New Precedent T180 which i hope to fly before the end of the year. It was brand new when it went in and has had about a gallon through it so far and quite frankly i'm not looking forward to finally getting it up in the air...its been a complete pig to tune and keep running. Throws the prop on occasions and is generally a pain in the butt but as its such a lovely sounding engine i will persevere with it until its right....some of the guys at the club reckon it just needs more running in but i'm nervous to say the least. I'm determined it won't beat me. I do use an electric starter for both although the Irvine probably doesn't need it. I find IC plane engines only as dangerous as the people that handle them!! (and sometimes i cringe watching some of the "i've done this a thousand times before" brigade half expecting to be flicking shredded finger off my model at any time. Have a starting proceedure and stick to it religiously and always restrain the plane, thats what i reckon. If it still gets you then maybe aero modelling isn't for you and you should consider cross-stitch or hill walking or something.
  20. Yes cancel the order David but thanks for the offer...i think i've got what i need now. Fantastic Rob....its just printing off on the boss's printer as we speak. Thanks very much Chaps
  21. Cheers David i've mailed you the details ok. Regards Paul
  22. Cheers Ultymate......i was just scanning the tinterweb for just such a thing. Many thanks for your time.
  23. Has anybody got a set of plans/build instructions for the Hanger 9 Pulse XT40 that are surplus to requirments or maybe even photo copies of the plans would be good. I've recently aquired the model 2nd hand but alas no plans and i would like to get hold a copy if possible just in case the worse happens and i need to do some reapirs. I'd obviously be happy to cover any costs for postage etc. Many  Thanks
  24. I've been asked by a friend who has just bought a petrol engine for his plane if there is some way he can cut the ignition to his engine from the transmitter rather than having to do it from a switch on the model itself. He has suggested a mechanical switch close to the throttle servo but i would think an electronic alternative would be better. I just wondered if anyone had done this before and could give me a few pointers i could pass on. Cheers
