  1. I've had my eye on doing an electric conversion since the plan first came out. Its my favourite plan I've had in the mag as of yet, and still intend to make one. I will be very interested in how much performance you get from your chosen motor, I want mine to be FAST! Ben.
  2. Looks great Stephen. Got a kit of a model not too dis-similar to the flair cub, I might just start the build. Anyway, well done on completion! Seems as if you might be more suited to landscape photography
  3. Its easily done Simon :D Heres just one example of a West Wings convert.  May be a bit big for indoor though.
  4. I had no rain on the 'Cotes D'Armor', or Brittany, on my recent holiday. Lots of massive cliffs which would have been perfect for Slope Soaring, unfortunetly, I had no glider with me. Humpf!
  5. Hi All! Just back from a big Sailing holiday in Sunny Brittany. Gotta catch up on the threads now, let alone all the news I've missed!    Ben
  6. Hi David,   Could you put the build article of Nigel Hawes' 30" Tucano on the front page please? I think the article was in the June 2001 issue, though im not sure. A quick look at the back issues for sale on myhobbystore shows that it is older than 7 years  Thanks Alot! Ben
  7. Thanks for the info! My LMS will be finding thumb nail marks in their wood now!
  8. Hi All,  When in your LMS, how do you work out the density of the balsa you're selecting? I know there is a formula to work density out but involves weighing, and suprisingly I don't carry a set of scales around. Do you shine it under a light, put your thumb through it or some other means?  I know some 'smart' person will come up with "Order it from Balsa Cabin or SLEC and let them do it for you", but that just doesn't help me! Thanks alot, Ben
  9. Was a great day today, almost zilch wind, marvellous. Maiden of a tri motor failed, couldn't get it off the deck. Also Maidened a GWS Harvard, what a lovely model! So easy to fly in a scale style! Saw a club members Tucano from a free RCM&E plan, looks great fun, may just have to build myself one!  The local Light Aircraft patch was also busy, very busy. Flying low over our patch just after take off , Every 15 minutes , causing people to dive models to the ground , not helpful if your trying to improve your aerobatics 2 mistakes high . Damn people in thier big expensive planes . Hope to become one when i've got the money
  10. Help in which way Phil? Anyway, anyone remember the Warrior 40? Flew at Sandown alot. Well, I've just come into posession of the 2nd prototype! Many years old, got a very old irvine 40 in it and tips the scales at 6.5lbs dry! Guess ill be keeping the throttle on all the time.  Ill keep y'all up dated.
  11. Yes, the manual means 2 inch left and 2 inch right. However, if you really are going to use is as a trainer you would get away with 1 inch either side. You could probably get away with half the suggested throws on both the ailerons and elevators as well. Remember, those control surfaces are massive, so don't need much movement to have alot of effect.
  12. You should see other people opinions first before you get disheartend! My idea of 'decent' may be completly different from yours. You said you flew it on a .19, personally I can't imagine that being fun but you may think other wise What david has said is true though, they are quite heavy models, maybe a bit of lightening would do it good. I've just remembered, propogandi did an electric cambrian Hurri, ill see if I can find the thread  EDIT Nope, got mixed up, it was a Balsacraft Hurri that he did Edited By Ben Mullins on 07/08/2009 22:10:41
  13. It has been done, on RC Groups. The motor needed was really very powerful. The Cambrian models are the same size as the Ripmax warbirds but alot heavier. A Clubmate got a ATS Mustang, which is the Cambrian Mustang, but ARTF. He powered it with a tuned .36. It flew really well and really fast, but you wouldn't want to fly it on less than a .32. So with the Knowledge that a .40 pushes out about 750W (1hp), to get decent performance, you would need a 4S lipo and at least 600W to fly it decently. I don't personally have a Cambrian fighter, but that would be my guess of what you would need.
  14. I use a hand drill David, no pillar involved! I have drilled loads of holes in props like this, and have never had a problem.
  15. David, just a normal drill will do the job, surely you have a drill? Every prop I've had has had to have its inner drilled out, its the way you make sure you have a tight fit.
  16. Here are the pic's. The model is halfway through restoration. Im yet to do anything to the wings, but have been concentrating on the fuselage and the empennage. There is suprisingly little dihederal for a vintage rudder/elevator model. A little info of the model first:  - Wingspan: 60" - Engine size: 25 2st  - 3 Channels Well, thats about all I know! I would like to know the C/G position and the target A.U.W. Click to make the pics bigger. Thanks, Ben
  17. Sounds relaxing Stephen. Ill get a picture of my model up as soon as I take a piccy.
  18. Fancy . I don't have many models needing separate battery packs, so im alright .
  19. This may seem foolish, but couldn't you buy a £4 ESC and just choc block the motor wires up? Cheaper than a regulator, if im right. Or am I missing something here?
  20. Only the Aurigny ones fly into Southampton. We get the Blue Island Dorniers as well. Jim, have you thought about converting an Islander? Found a plan here.
  21. 'Synth', a shortend version of synthesised. Basically, you don't need a crystal. Follow the instructions that came with the RX and you'll be fine
