  1. ok, hope you enjoyed that coffee, i'm moving onto beer cos this is driving me mad! lots of other guides i've seen say turn on tx and move to full throttle, then hook up power to esc/motor. i've did it with low power as you suggested and getting different, although not yet successful results! when i switch on with low throttle i get 4 beeps in quick succession, followed by 5 single beeps, then five double beeps. if i do nothing, the 5 single and double beeps repeat constantly. if however i move to full throttle after 3 or 4,the beeps stop and if i reduce power the motor spins up then stops again (so i know the motor works). if i move to full after 3 or 4 beeps and leave it there i get a double beep followed by 5 singles then nothing. there's too many combinations to go thru what i've done but i must have tried loads, obviously not the correct one tho! dont suppose you have a rubber-band powered glider i could use instead cos this electroniccy stuff is frying my head!
  2. thanks simon, certainly desciribed it well, as it sure is ugly, but seems cheap enough and hopefully more suited to my abilities! seem to have another issue though. i assembled all the bits n bobs from the cessna and the servos all seem to work fine, but having a problem with the motor/esc. i've went thru the set up process as best i can following some processes i found online, and after several hours of counting beeps and trying various ways, i cant seem to get anywhere. i know the motor still runs, as it did leap into life on a few occasions, but noting i do seems to give consistent results. any pointers on this would be most welcome!
  3. hi folks, looking for some help and advice! had the dynam ep400 cessna as a starter, http://www.dynam-rc.com/products/airplane/cessna.htm but after one too many unexpected landings it's now beyond repair! BUT i'm not gving up hope of getting back in the air despite the lady of the house terminating my budget...so, can anyone recommend a beginner's model that i could buy as a bare kit and re-use the gizmos from the above model in, to help reduce my spending and stop me being thrown into the dog-house again? thanks in advance guys and please help keep me flying!
  4. late in, top of the pile, don't dig too deep for the winner guys!!
  5. Yup, won the apache (me n kid having great fun now!), can i continue my lucky streak???
  6. hi all, 1st off, apologies if wrong forum, but.... looking for some suggestions on a full kit (high wing trainer) for my first go at IC flying. Not up to speed at all on different engines, sizes etc. So looking for any kits that would be pre-matched to start off with. Any suggestions on this greatly appreciated folks.
  7. emmmm.....seems clear enough then........ ...... back to rubber band gliders i think.....
  8. Hi Folks, thanks for replies, http://www.dynam-rc.com/products/airplane/cessna.htm this is the model here, although mine is not quite this pristine now.... yup, the bug got to me and i couldn't wait. left the ailerons on after Eric's post, didn't really make much difference as wasn't up long enough, (but those 30 seconds were awesome!!!). made the long trip to the flying field and by luck one of the club guys was there. He was great, had a look over everything for me to check and did the hand launch for me after adjusting some bits n bobs (apologies for the techno-lingo). inevitable happened, as i was prepared for, just not so quickly. When the multiple pieces were checked and found none were missing, he gave me some info on sorting/strengthening etc. Late night last night when i finished work and i'm off again this morning to try again, Wish Me Luck!!
  9. hi all, been reading up quite a lot and was holding back on spending some money until really got an idea of what to get as a first-timer. I have some experience of RC but not much on flying and certainly nothing other than a small childs toy. However, better half surprised me by splashing some money on what the "dealer" told her was a good starter model...and i'm sure he wasn't just trying to get more money out of her....yeah right! I now have (no sniggers plz! )  a "cessna 400 epp" by Dynam.  Few Q's if someone could help me.... Is it any good or should I visit said dealer with my lads as back-up?!?! From reading other posts etc, I shouldn't even go near ailerons until I have some experience, so if I just don't connect the servo cable for that will that be ok? The charger is a field charger with no AC adapter, and the huge amount of info on this has almost fried my brain already, can someone recommend either an AC adapter suitable for it or should I go for full new charger kit that has an included AC? (bit afraid after all I've read on LiPo) The control does have a lead for a buddy, but I'm in same position as some other newbies on here, nearest flying club is quite far away and bit of a waiting list, so should I even attempt to fly this on my own? (space isn't a problem as I'm on edge of the countryside). Help appreciated on this folks
  10. hi tim/alistair, thanks for the welcome. lots of info which i'm sure will come in handy, still trying to resist parting with my hard-earned just now while i digest the (surpisingly large!) info from yourselves and the various forums. Been off the the model shop which is a bit of a trek, disappointing as the guy wasn't really much help (does say under new owners just now though), so suppose i'll be web-shopping (hate waiting on deliveries!!!) next stop is "local" club for some help there as well, but just wanted to say thanks, enjoying the site and some of the posts i've been looking at have quickly dispelled the "cardigan and slippers" impression my better half had of my intended new hobby!
  11. emmm, folks, due to the better half reconsidering (read as "removing") my budget for my new hobby, this is the only way i'll get flying any time soon. having read the forums it's clear that you all want to help the newbies (just me of course!) so if you can all ask the mods to remove your posts it would be much appreciated!!!!
  12. wow! all this techno-talk making me dizzy - double-clunks, exhaust pressure tube, invert or not-to-invert? makes it easier for me to think leccy is the only way i'll ever get flying
  13. Hi all, another novice here. Like most of the newbies here, been building models since a lad (many moons ago!) and looking to move on a little. I'm looking to move onto flying planes and really looking for some guidance on where to start, what to buy etc. I tell my better half this is for my 5 year old son but we all know better! It may be a big leap but I would prefer building and flying rather than buying a fully assembled kit. At the same time though, I would prefer a kit that comes with everything I need to start me off, hopefully not too expensive to begin with (yes, I want the world at bargain prices!) Any help would be much appreciated!
