How do you support your Tx when flying?
Geriatric Novice replied to David Ashby - Moderator's topic in Model Flying Polls
MRM Trannie tray. I only started flying on retirement. I bought a couple of hand launched models including a MPX Easy Glider Plus. To me it seemed the easiest (and safest way) of launching these models (if you fly Mode 2) - hold the model in the left hand, open the throttle with the right and return to the rh stick - launch. Tx is held at your tummy in the ideal position to pick up without looking down. It, also, keeps the trannie off wet grass and (original Spectrum 7) protects the bind button. Regartds Paul -
Why is the foamy smaller? I suspect that it is designed to use the popular 3S 2200 series of batteries similar to the Wot 4 Foamy I have an early MK1 Foamy and it's still going strong (albeit with a few repairs). The weakest link is possibly the U/C mounting. This can be fixed by glueing in vertically 2 one inch lengths of 1/2 in dowell using polyuirethane / grorilla glue. The only downside I see is that Ripmax do not sell a spare shaft for the motor. It looks like the foamy Acro Wot may be a good low wing follow on for those who learnt on the Foamy 4. PS I also have a MK 2 kit built classic with an E-flight Power 46 on 4S. Paul

E-Flight Power 46 Bearing Replacement
Geriatric Novice replied to Geriatric Novice's topic in Motor Discussion
Tony,Many thanks. I two complete sets from simplybearings.co.uk for £20 excluding postage. Summer and holidays have got in the way, but I have removed the 2 smaller bearings - they tapped out easily through the back (larger bearing). Only the front bearing is showing signs of damage, but I will replace all three. There is a youtube on changing bearings on a Power 90. I looked at Bocca bearings, but couldn't find a UK supplier. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89B1b4nyIIA I will update once I have finished the job -
E-Flight Power 46 Bearing Replacement
Geriatric Novice replied to Geriatric Novice's topic in Motor Discussion
Many thanks. I am on holiday at my son's in England at the moment. As soon as I get home to Scotland, I will have a go, and let you know how I got on. Paul. -
Following a crash, the only damage to my Power 46 (apart from a bent shaft) appears to be a chipped bearing in the top (outermost) race of the rotating can. Horizon Hobby say that E-Fight do not do spares, so I am on my own. Has anyone tried to change this bearing? If so where did you get the replacement from?In particular there are two races at the top of the can - do they both drift out from the back or is there a web inbetween? ie are the bearings pressed in from different sides? Many Thanks Paul

If there was a "Wooden Spoon" prize it should go to the Ripmax Marketing Team for the Wot 4 Foamy-e. All credit to the design team for producing what appears to be a superb model, but a 0/10 to Marketing for getting the availability so wrong! -

1. Slough RC Models2. BRC Hobbies3. no idea -have only ever bought 2 a Seagull E Pioneer and a Multiplex EG Pro, and bother were good: no vote in this class 4. Horizon Hobbies - When I couldn't find a female socket to charge my TX battery away from the TX - they sent me a bit of a circuit board containing the socket free of charge and by return. -
Dave, Consider buying a "trannie tray" from MRM MRM Tray The mini tray works fine. This way you can hold the model in your left hand, and in Mode 2 use your right hand to advance the throttle safely and then transfer back to the aileron/elevator stick for the release - should work similarly with mode 1. The TX is always safely positioned and you have positive control of the aircraft at all times. Additional benefits are: It keeps the TX off any wet grass whilst you de-arm the model after landing and (with my Spectrum 7) prevents any unintentional pressure on the "Bind" button whilst allowing easy access for range checks Paul Edited By Chris Card - Moderator on 23/07/2010 07:21:14

Many thanks. If you haven' already included it. I suggest that you recommend buying a programming card and checking the timing. The high-model (60 and 18 amp)and the Wasp ESC (20 amp) were delivered with the default set at "Low"/ "Soft" . The HIModel instructions include the comment, "In most cases low timing can be used for most motors, but for high efficiency, we recommend Low timing for 2 pole motors and Medium for 6 poles and above. For higher speed< high timing can be chosen." My supplier didn't have a programming card in stock when I ordered the package, so I stuck with the default - mistake. I now have and E-Flight Power 32 on the 60 amp HiModel set on Medium timing with a 4s pack in an E-Pioneer. It works fine on the ground - just waiting for the weather to improve. The wind has been 90 deg cross at our club site for a while. OK for my crash and bash/bounce foamy but I am too chicken to try a "real" trainer in those conditions.

Wish I had seen this earlier - one Hi-model 900KVA cosigned to the dustbin due to taxi trials on low (default) timing. Different terminology is no help. I have both Wasp and Hi-model ESCs - one uses "hard and soft" an the other "low, medium and high" Feel a short paragraph by the the RCME el*ctric guru could be helpful
