Results of 2 x 8 minute flights, no mess under the fuselage but ¼” oil in the catch tank - not good

    Even more worrying was this

Looks like rust and having contacted Jon it’s back to him for a strip down / investigation but gut feel says that I could be in for an extensive (expensive 😢) repair. In the meantime I’m going to use the 200 in-line currently in the Sportster so that I can continue flying the Hurri.

Another problem occurred whilst flying the Hurri, when I deployed flaps it banked to port but back in the pits both flaps were working fine. Consensus is that it is probably servo  ‘blow back’ so both flap servos will be replaced.

    Ouch.

    That does not look good.

  2. On my X20 I used to use an XJT Lite. It gives both D8 and D16 protocols along with LR12

All of my older RX "were" on the latest V2 firmware.

I ran various Rx with it including older V8R7II and D8RII-Plus X6R, X4R etc etc.
    Firmware Version installed is 2.1.0

I am now using a MPM so no longer need my XJT Lite.

I guess that your TX is running either Open or EdgeTX. Just select external module and XJT.

    So in summary.

Make sure all your RX that are able to be are updated to the V2 protocol, even better install Uni-firmware on those that you can.

Never had an issue with any models using the XJT Lite.

    Hope that helps.

  3. Can you try another RX by substitution? Is normal service available on all your other RX?

I had an RX8PRO that did a similar thing. When swapped out for another normal service was resumed.

Result. The RX was destroyed by a big hammer!

A faulty RX could be your issue. Check the aerial leads are correctly seated in their little IPX connectors on the main board.

I’m perfectly happy with an OS 52F in my Chipmunk - I didn’t build it particularly lightly but I have to limit myself to half throttle to get anything of a ground run and it gives much better than scale performance.  Brian Borland told me that the prototype used a “well used” OS40 FS.

My Tomahawk was similarly engined and in no way underpowered.

That is good news as I have a BNIB ASP52FS that is scheduled to go in it. Failing that I have an older OS48FS. I am planning well for my retirement!!

Maybe I should have started a Night Flying topic? anyway this is a short, timewarped, video of my new Night Radian. Quite a few other club members have got 'planes kitted out for 'night' flying so expect some more videos in the near future plus a report on the Wingnut Tech LED light control system. (HD and 4K versions of the vid are being processed).

It arrived no problem then @Ron Gray?

The self install UNI firmware is now available (no cost):

It is posted here: https://forum.alofthobbies.com/index.php?threads/universal-accst-firmware-is-coming.2252/post-39272 together with instructions.

    Receivers currently supported are: X8R, X6R, X4R, X4R-SB, RX8R and RX8R-PRO.

    Features:

    Auto-detect of protocol V1/V2, FCC/LBT.

    Mitigation of the "V1 bug".

Auto-tuning to match the Tx frequency.

The SBUS output may be swapped to be an extra servo output.

VFR (Valid Frame Rate) telemetry value.

    Random telemetry errors eliminated.

Map any channel to any output.

Individually select servo outputs to be 18mS or 9mS rate.

    Supports dual bind.

X4R may be configures to output CPPM.

X8R uses the RSSI signal as an analog input (A2) with a voltage range of 0-3.3V.

I shall try one later. I have a few "unused" RX.
Who would be best to get the code from? The post says "this code is then emailed to one of the FrSky dealers working with UNI " Are T9 in the UK participating?

The unique ID is fixed for each Rx, it is obtained from the processor.

I expect the script to be available for all of ETHOS, EdgeTx, openTx and erskyTx. The LUA script has been tested on openTx and erskyTx, a BASIC script is also OK on erskyTx.

    EdgeTx should be tested shortly.

I'm not aware if there will be any cost for this firmware is flashing yourself, I've only just completed and tested the changes.

    Mike

Even better, a total win for me.

We are beta testing this firmware on the RX4R and RX6R receivers. For these we have been testing a "user activation" feature. This involves users flashing the receiver themselves, then binding. At this point no receiver outputs work (no servo outputs, no SPort, no SBUS).

You then run a script on the Tx that obtains a 12-character unique ID from the receiver. You send this to one of the main FrSky dealers (or possibly me!) and get a 6-character activation code back. Using the same script as before you enter this into the Rx and it is then fully activated and all outputs work.

I've just completed adding this to the existing receivers that support UNI firmware (X8R, X6R, X4R, X4R-SB, RX8R and RX8R-PRO), so this method of getting UNI on those receivers should be available quit soon.

    Mike

And the cost of this service?

I guess it is going to come in at a fair bit less than when having to send the RX to a dealer?

With so many RX to do I would much prefer the self help option.

Would the "script" run under ETHOS OpenTX and Edge TX or are we going to be limited to say just OpenTX?

    Thanks.

Kevin, the tanker that was stuck on the rock where we were both stopping in Malta has now been sunk off the coast of Gozo as a diving attraction...was going to cost too much money to repair.

    ken anderson...ne..1...... malta dept .

Way back in 2018 that was Ken.

We are off there in a couple of weeks, first time  away since the Covid struck. First time on a plane since February 2020.

    Looking forward to it.

I'd love to know how the OP would be able to follow those instructions bearing in mind he can't read the LCD display on his transmitter...

    Hmmm good point.

Maybe ignore my advise as I clearly know diddly.🤣
