  1. Hi All I think I read somewhere about using Halfords primer spray for depron. Halfords have about four different types, so which is the right one? I'm looking to paint a depron Eurofighter, so grey's the colour. Many thanks
  2. "Competent", "safely", "soldering ali", "dangerous". So that's a 'no' then! Cheers Timbo.Edited By RonSpencerUK on 21/11/2009 19:56:45
  3. Hi I've got a 3S LiPo that has 'lost' a cell; rather that chuck it, can I use it as a 2S?
  4. Hi Simuk My first ever build was one of Foamy Dave's:  the Tiger Moth in Depron. My local office supplies shop copies the plan for £1.00 per side so i get two of each in case of KU's. I simply cut around the outlines then pin them to the sheets and cut round again with a new blade (a new No.11 blade going through Depron is one of THE great sounds). The article actually calls for 9mm EPP, don't know where he gets that from. Where do you get your 8mm from?
  5. Hi Rookie Wow, where to begin? Start off by disconnecting the motor so the blades won't turn, connect the battery  then sit the 'copter on a table and run through all the controls so you can observe what's happening (and not happening). Report back if you need help analysing what's going on.
  6. Once again the forum comes up trumps! Thanks for the advice and info.
  7. Hi All Thanks for the replies. Mowerman, I've trawled through the albums but can't find the one you refer to. Is there a way to search the albums like you can the forums?
  8. Hello All I really fancy making a Blackburn Buccaneer from foam and using a couple of small EDFs. Does anyone know of any plans? I've tried Google, but only found a tiny (about 1/100) 3-view. I suppose I can photo-enlarge from that, but if anyone knows of a better solution, I'd be very grateful.Edited By Bruce Richards - Moderator on 01/11/2009 19:46:19
  9. Hi Iain   What is the pipe made from, and by how much do you need to bend it?
  10. OOHH, I think you're looking for a fight!!   Others, e.g. Timbo, are FAR more qualified than I to give reasons, I can merely offer an opinion. I use the Futaba 6EX as I have collected five Rx in various airframes, but I also bought a Spektrum DX7 fo £85.00 at a show so that I can fly 'Bind-N-Fly' types and also use cheaper Spekkie Rx's in foamies and 'toys' that I like to build. No prob's with either bit of kit.   Incidentally, building simple foamies would be a great family activity; marking out, cutting, electrics, painting, etc. Something for everyone to do, and then you can fly it!
  11. Hi Russ Just a thought, but if you're going to have training at your club, you will probably be on a 'buddy lead'. Make sure that the Tx system you go for is compatible with your teacher's.    My club in Suffolk uses Futaba for training so i got a s/hand 6EX and Rx for £100. Fine equipment BTW, but the Rx's are expensive compared to Spektrum if you're going to have a several airframes - and you will!!
  12. SG91's have been good for me on 'cheapo' heli's, HS65MG's if you want something less likely to strip gears in a prang. For foamies, cheapo SG90's (£9.99 for 4), but I prefer HS 55's and HS50's.
  13. Hi Timbo Yes, the thread you refer to was very useful. Still can't do Deans without melting the plastic though.Martyn, how do you manage it?
  14. Deans connectors are my downfall. I always manage to melt the plastic before the solder runs.Otherwise, I've coped OK using an 80W soldering iron and a pair of pliers to hold the connector while I solder.
  15. Hi Stephen - This was the first time I had problems with the charger/DX7 thats why I was a bit concerned when the Tx died on me.   Tony - wise words, I'll follow your suggestion if I need to terminate a charge in future.   Dave - yeah, I see your point  but I spent £100+ on the Graupner and leads to reduce the number of chargers I have.   Thanks for the replies, all gratefully recieved.
  16. Hi Guys Sorry for not replying sooner, bad thunderstorms and power blips meant that I kept the computer off. Pete, they need to supply magnifying glasses for us oldies. Now you mention it, I can see the symbols!   Thanks a lot.
  17. I was charging my DX7 using an Ultramat 16, something I've done a couple of times (newish DX7). I had to interrupt the charging and did so by pulling the red battery connector out of the charger. I switched on the DX7 to see how much it was charged and it was completely dead. I plugged it back into the charger and got the "contact break" error message. I looked in the Spektrum instruction book but no mention of deadness that I could see, so I opened the back of the DX7 for a look. There's a fuse in there!  Not mentioned in the book and a bit of a pain to extract. The rating is 3A 250V and it's smaller than a normal household plus fuse. Fortunately I had a couple of the correct size and rating knocking about so I got up and running again. Thought I'd post this for other DX7 newbies who might not realise that a spare fuse would be handy to have, and also can anyone suggest a 'non-lethal' way of terminating the charging process? Thanks as ever
  18. Hi All I'm about to use the above Rx for the first time and I'm unsure of which way round the servo leds go; no marking on the casing to indicate. So, which way round should the white/yellow lead go? Thanks.
  19. I've bought from them as thy're fairly local to me and I sometimes like to go for a 'browse'. Usually end up getting something I didn't know I wanted,  it's that sort of shop: stuffed to the rafters with goodies! I havn't built any of their branded kits, but I'm willing to bet that they'll be good. The people in the shop are very friendly and knowledgeable.
  20. Hi Clive I always fancied an airbrush as a lad but couldn't afford one. After reading David's piece I took the plunge and bought an Iwata plus compressor. I also attended the one-day airbrush course described; well worth it IMHO But, as Gemma says, probably not strictly necessary if you're good at hand brushing.
  21. Hi Weasel I think the gripes about Futaba Rx prices refer to the 2.4Gig types, at least that's my complaint.
  22. What about an 'anti-foaming' clunk? Means taking out the tank though!
  23. David I have the same problem. The 617 certainly works and is cheaper than the 608. My long-term solution is to go Spekky from now on.
  24. Hi Sirio I don't think there are any compatibility issues provided that the plug on the servo will fit into the socket on th Rx. Oh yes, also ensure you have the colour coding of the servos sorted as different makes use differen coloured wires.
