  1. Posted by Andy Palmer on 04/05/2015 08:31:21: I'm getting tempted by all these photos. They look pretty simple to build and they obviously fly well...time to clear the building board! Andy Go for it Andy, my mk1 PC was the first time I'd built off a plan it really is a simple job. Plus you've the benefit of all the tips from here Baz
  2. Don't even worry about the wind John I've flown mine in over 20mph constant plus gusts. Baz
  3. Cheers Ken, this one will be done a hell of a lot quicker as mk1 took 6 months on and off and then my candoo took about 2 month so should be less again ha. Think this one will fly better too. Baz
  4. Well my Mk1 pushy cat went in due to loss of radio signal yesterday It was my own fault. I have put a frsky hack module into a friends Futaba 7c as had done my own over a year ago the only difference this time was I put the aerial in a different place. Not thinking anything of it I flew my PC to test all was well with the TX and it wasn't. On further investigation I found that the aerial didn't screw far enough in to its housing due to the plastic on tx body been thicker on the new place and their for massively reducing signal. Never mind you learn from your mistakes. SO IT's ON TO MK2 Found some balsa left over from my candoo build so had enough to do one complete wing, both tailbooms and the tailplane These were done so much quicker than the first time as I now know that things don't need to be millimetre perfect and 100% to plan just as long as both sides are the same Also got the formers done as had to buy a massive sheet of ply last time. As my MK1 I've made F2 with straight sides, without the cutouts for the ply doublers as again these will be replaced with 1/8 balsa doublers slotted in after sides and bottom sheeting is glued together. Another slight change was to enlarge the cutout of F3 to be the size of F1 and that way you get two for one F4 is about 4mm wider just to allow a bit more room for the motor and you'll also see I've made a ply motor mount as like last time I don't want motor attached to F4. Hopefully get some more wood this week and get cracking. Baz Edited By brfc7 on 03/05/2015 16:07:03 Edited By brfc7 on 03/05/2015 16:09:14

  7. Dave Smith Panther Cracking eBay purchase especially as I got it for £22.01 Got the airframe, 5x hitec servos and OS40 max. Flew it yesterday for the first time and it flys great and the engine never missed a beat. Baz
  8. The only bits of airframe that are salvageable and will be used in my Mk2 are the battery access canopy and nose cone. All the electronics are fine so will only cost me £15 max for wood to get another one done. Will finish off the repairs to my candoo first as only need to glue in foreplane servos. baz
  9. Re above loss of signal with frsky diy module. Think I've cracked why it happened. I've put the aerial in a different place to my own as this Tx is only 2.4 now so aerial comes out the top where the original aerial did and I've realised the plastic it comes through is thicker so the actual aerial didn't screw in to its housing far enough. A quick range test before and after changing changing it looks to confirm this. Baz
  10. Tale of two halves this morning. Was at field 11-1 all alone as it was way too windy for the fair weather guys. Had 3 great 10 minute flights with my recent ebay purchase. A panther funfly including 5 x hitec servos and os40 max. No idea how it would run. Pleased to say the engine runs like a dream and the model itself flys very nice. I can't complain at all for the price I stole it for £22.01 Would fly backwards lovely in the 18+mph wind, Can't wait to get it out again on a calm day hopefully. Next I flew my trusty pushycat thats nearly a year old. I was using a friends Futaba 7c that I have just converted to frsky 2.4 using a diy module soldered internally. This been the third Tx I've done. Well today it didn't work for some reason on a pass at 10 feet above the ground and about 50 metres away it lost all signal and went in strange considering I'd been flying over 5 minutes and at times 100+ meters away fine. I've no idea why this has happened. Back at home doing range tests with all 3 Tx's I've done 2 are fine but this newest one sometimes loses signal within a few meters???????????? Will defo be building a new one asap as it lived in the boot of the car for all the spur of the moment trips to the field. Baz

  13. Sorry but yous have got me all confused, surely the further back the CofG the more nose heavy ie 33% is more nose heavy than 25% so for a first flight is rather more nose heavy. Baz
  14. Posted by Peter Miller on 30/04/2015 08:22:48: May I suggest 25% chord for the first flights. The tailplane is small. You can always move it back later. Going to try 33% of chord as at 25% I think it will be way too tail heavy baz Edited By brfc7 on 30/04/2015 22:13:39
  15. Posted by John Privett on 29/04/2015 22:47:18: Posted by brfc7 on 29/04/2015 22:38:20: Also thinking about an APC 11x4 ???????????? Should be about right. That's what I had on my Limbo Dancer with Irvine 36. In fact that's the model you can (just!) see at the top-left of my avatar pic! What about a 10x4? Would I see a major difference between the 10x4 and 11x4? Just my local shop doesn't stock the 11x4 and for some reason it is nearly double the price of the 11x4 when buying online. Do I try a 10x5? baz Edited By brfc7 on 30/04/2015 00:34:33
  16. That's what I was going to do as a start, cheers for confirming John Also thinking about an APC 11x4 ???????????? baz Edited By brfc7 on 29/04/2015 22:39:21
  17. A GOOD EBAY BUY FOR A CHANGE Dave Smith Panther Incl- OS40 Max FP 5 X Hitec servos New JP EnErG 1300mah nimh Won for only £22.01 (The battery alone is nearly worth half of that) Won at 10.30am and collected at 4.00pm, Spent all evening going over it and really it's only needed a good clean, some re ironing and a servo lead soldered. I need to sort some wing elastic bands as I haven't got any and also get an APC prop and then do final checks including C of G (Anyone know where that should be?) before my first flight baz Edited By brfc7 on 29/04/2015 22:16:07

  19. John, one of the club fields I fly at has just installed 8 nice new starting tables. I used them once and then went back to been on the ground as it just didn't feel right with my starting procedure especially as been flying 19 years and never used one before  On another note I've been to an indoor meeting tonight 6 - 9.45pm. 3 different slots 20 mins each for different disciplines so flew my big crack yak 5 batteries and mini crack yak 6 batteries as usual a few little repairs to do due to the inevitable mid airs (It's surprising how well the big yak flys with only one working aileron and also how well the mini yak flys with one side of its tail plane completely ripped off)  baz Edited By brfc7 on 18/04/2015 22:45:42 Edited By brfc7 on 18/04/2015 22:47:49
  20. You need to close both the radiators inlet and outlet the same as you would for old style boiler when taking it off. When it comes to replacing it you need to plumb it all back in and turn heating on. Once up to temperature open both in and outlets and the bleed screw as you would the old way. The only difference is you need to keep the system pressurised by opening the cold in feed to the boiler for short periods to keep pressure gauge between 1 - 2. Hard to explain exactly in words so watch a couple of vids on YouTube. Baz
  21. Took half of my squadron to field today as a few of them needed setting up on new Tx. Was there for a good 5 hours so flew them all except the old Nexus. Bit of a poor turn out for a club with 100+ members as was only about 10 their. I was on my own from 10.15 - 11. Good day had baz

  23. Forgot to say in my above post that I only had 2 flights with the Summit 40 as some of the tailplane covering underneath decided to completely come off and start flapping in the draught. I wouldn't care but my plan was to see if it flew today and then run an iron all over it after. Just a 2 minute fix though. baz
  24. Been out this afternoon for a few flights with my Protech Summit 40, I bought this airframe off Ken (NE1) more than a few years ago but had never got around to flying it. So enjoyed a couple of 6 minute flights.
