  1. I would say not a Zero. The trailing edge of the elevators should be in line with the hinge line of the vertical stabiliser, which should be a bit more rounded if so.
  2. Does anybody know what time it is due over Staverton (or Glos. Airport) or its take off time please. The South schedule shows +165 min, only I can't see anywhere where it shows the take off time. Thanks!
  3. Tidy little planes those aren't they Colin. Personally, I'd feel safer in the 3-axis like these, rather than a weight shift microlight. Hey, put in a Rotax 912 or 914 and I could do all the servicing for you
  4. Thank you Colin. I wanted to build something that hasn't been done before (according to my knowledge), plus coming from Gloucester and being a member of the local aircraft museum, it seemed quite fitting. The fighter that never quite made it! bob
  5. Hello Jon, I live in the Barnwood area. The plane was on the floor in the display hall at the museum, but I have it back home now so I can put the decals on. Happy to swap phone numbers (and save clogging up this site) if you are up for it Thanks, Bob
  6. Hopefully you have a PM through Tomtom. let me know if not. Cheers!
  7. Roger that W.F. details on the way over.........
  8. Morning All! Thanks for the replies. I may not be fully awake yet, but I am guessing the "memories of love" thing is to do with Cymazs' unfortunate misspell. Don't you just hate it when you go to type shot or puss and you hit the letter next to it. There is plenty of room for take off on the car park tarmac at the museum, and the airport is non-operative after 1900hrs daily anyway, so plenty of airspace and a grass apron if needed. Failing that, there is plenty of open ground around the area to use. Are you close by then David? Build photos etc. are in the photo album. Thanks, Bob
  9. Hiya All, me again, I am looking for someone to test my F9/37 for me please, I am still on a high wing trainer. If you fell brave enough, please get back to me as I would really love to see it airborne (so would a few others at the museum). It is balanced and ready to go. AUW 6 &1/2lb, 660 watts, counter props, 50 inch wing span. Thanks, Bob
  10. Hello Everybody, Took delivery of my bespoke decals yesterday, they will finish off my F9/37 a treat! If anybody is in need of their own, I can put you in touch the guy who did mine. They are waterslide. Jim does a fantastic job. He has industrial, professional equipment so a great job guaranteed. Just supply Jim the required diameter, height, width etc. and he will contact you with an image of the finished product for approval of colour shades etc. and then print off for you. Bob
  11. Colin, I agree with everything mentioned by the other folk. You may also wish to take into account the whole setup of your back end. With my F9/37 I chose from the outset to have a retractable tail wheel as per the original, but you do pay the price. The weight of the retract unit and extra ply strengthening soon adds up and takes its toll. I aimed for a 5&1/2lb AUW model and ended up at 6&1/2lb after packing in 1lb, yes 1lb of lead shot up front. The long moment arm didn't help, but it's what I wanted for effect. Maybe I should have compromised and just stuck to a fixed tail wheel! ATB, Bob
  12. Thank you very much for your input guys. Simon, reckon I can go ahead with that 3-view attachment. it is only going to be a static model after all, I have an airfoil library within Compufoil, I'll see how the basic pans out against the "modified". Chris, I'll keep Shawbury in mind. If any info comes to light about the incident/washout, I'd be very grateful. just want it to look right. Thanks again, knew this site would come up trumps. ATB, Bob
  13. Morning All! I have been asked by our museum to build a decent size Horsa to compliment our full size cockipit build. I have settled on 1/12 and it will only be suspended from the roof, so not worried about moving control surfaces. Does anybody have a decent 3-view they wouldn't mind sending me please? I can scale up from that (I guess some scale plans would be nice if they are out they too), just hit me with a price for your trouble. Also, does anybody know what the mainplane and tailplane incidents are, and if there was any wash-out built into the mainplane? Does NACA 44XX airfoil section seem right? Thank You kind people! Bob
  14. Nice blonde Gibson there Jim. You may already know this, but Eddie had a hollow body Gibson prior to getting his Gretsch. He liked the tone of the P90 pick-up so much that he removed the original DiArmond neck pick-up, and replaced it with a P90, as the photo will show.
  15. Thanks BEB! Again, I appreciate your input, wasn't sure how border line it would be. The props in the photo are scale 10 inch , it has 9x5 GWS counter rotating props for flight, the original GWS 10x6's were too much to cope with. Just need to find someone brave enough to test fly it for me. The museum folk are keen to see it in the air and take some photo's as it's a Gloster plane. I am totally confident in what I have done. I established the CG using the formula in Gordon Whitehead's book and adjusted the CG on a Vanessa Rigg (Do you think that she is related to Diana?). Bob
  16. Morning Folks! Chris, must show you a photo of my backside one day! Kingkade, Phil, trust me, this is one guitar that I wouldn't want to hand launch, even after I got the Cg sorted! Ha ha! Nice one Peter, I appreciate a good fun song. At least it was a Taylor and not a Gretsch! Good stuff Josip, you must post a photo when it's done. What colour is the body? Mine is actually the Eddie Cochran re-issue that Gretsch made, it's 12 years old now. Keep rockin' Bob
  17. Thank You for the thumbs up vote Ian. Yes, the plane was a prototype that Gloster built which first flew in 1939, it would have had five 20mm cannons and could hit 360mph. The air ministry lost interest so never made it in to production. I live in Gloucester, and I am a member of the restoration team at the Jet Age Museum here, so it had to be done really. Wanted to build something that isn't already out there. Cheers!
  18. Well, after 6 years of doing nothing lying it's case, I thought I'd give my Gretsch a clean and treat it to some new strings, boy did it need it. Came up like new. Anybody interested in forming our own RCM&E rockabilly/swing jive band?
  19. Well hello everybody, it's been a while. I have finally finished my 1/12 (50 in) Gloster F9/37. Thanks for all your contributions along the way, all help, advice and experience was (and will continue to be) gratefully received. A few photos to show the before and after on Vanessa. The as built CG was an inch behind where it should be and I ended up packing in 16oz, yes, 16oz of lead shot, up front wherever I could! the model was 5&1/2lb (which was my target AUW!) prior to balancing, so ended up at 6&1/2lb AUW. The powertrain will give 660watts, so I am at 100 watts per pound. Any thoughts on flying it, personally I don't have enough experience, I'm still on high wing trainers, I just like to build! Anyway, a few photos which I hope upload okay. thanks again, Bob
