  1. my mutiplex twister edf. Its so portable I take it as a second flyer every time I go out. upgraded to a 4s li-po it gallops around with real jet like tendencies. fantastic fun to fly and good crash Resistance. 12 mins flying from a 4s hand launch easy.
  2. same thing happens to me only I get full flaps then when it connects all is normal, no problems when flying though
  3. why dont you hand launch it? Much better than bouncing off a dolley have way down a bumpy grass strip.
  4. Its true you never stop learning, I was enjoying the afternoon sun yesterday getting the dust off my mustang when one of the club instructors wandered over and asked if I was still suffering with my ongoing problem of slowing down quickly to land? limited space) He was flying a trainer at the time and asked if I fancied trying setting up what he described as a crow! He promptly climbed to about 300ft and dived vertical over the flying field, I was certain the plane was heading for disaster then about 20ft off the deck he pulled level and the plane landed in about 10ft of runway. Amazing I stood in disbelief as he performed this twice more each time scrubbing off high speed in a matter of feet. The secret being a mix in the tx which set 80 degrees of flap along with 80 degrees of up aileron (both sides) the result instant air brakes. I have programed my tx to perform the same way on my world models beaver cant wait to try it.
  5. Good point Eric but what if you could get a cover like the ones they put on keyboards to keep out dust oil water etc.
  6. arrrr come on, some times I think you guys dont take this serious. Just think of the hours we miss because of that wet stuff. Right back in line you lot and step forward with helpful solutions. I reckon the main problem is the tx how about some kind of clip on clear plastic cover? perhaps a rubber slip on ring to stop water running down the aerial? Oh no wait for the slip on rubber jokes !!!! Tim would the rubber slip on work at the Orne ha ha
  7. maybe the mag could do a feature on the best methods to waterproof things? tried fitting a rain coat to my mustang but it looks a bit silly.
  8. Well and here is me thinking its just not done!! Oh sorry guys your wrong the Mrs has just explained why, "its the only time I do anything around the house"
  9. Ok I know this sounds stupid, but if the tx had some sort of covering what harm could a bit of water do to the aircraft? How much wet stuff would get through a prop to the motor. Would it bother an ic at all. I was thinking perspex bus shelter at the field to stay dry. I tested this by flying the heli in the back garden whilst stood in the conservatory seems to work fine ha ha. Just think of all them extra hours of play.
  10. are you saying the aerial should be at 90 deg or straight ?
  11. I think you are right the motor was designed to run at 18.5v with a KV of 530 which equates to 9805 rpm. if I run a 6s battery the voltage under load should be around 20v which should give 10600 rpm I cant see the difference in revs breaking the bank in this case, Plus this only means any thing when I'm at full chat does it not? Thanks for your help Tim.
  12. Hi all, Just bought a motor with a volt range 14.4v-18.5v the amp range is 20-40. My question is if I connect to a 22v battery pack but prop the motor so it still runs within the amp range will it cope? The KV is 530 by the way. any takers Paul
  13. After reading the article relating to chargers etc. There is one aspect I am confused about. The bit concerning detecting peak delta switching says its best to charge around 1C ok but is that in all cases? I recently bought a 7.4v for the rc buggy and could not get more than half capacity in the first charge. I rung the supplier and was informed to charge at 0.2 amps for the first charge. This sorted the problem. To prove the point I took 2 brand new flight packs 6v 2200 and charged the first at 2 amps the second at 0.2 amps the first took 1400 before saying full the second 2600 before switch off. So is it fair to say first time chargng should not follow the articles instruction? I am referring to nimh type bateries only
  14. This topic has gone round in some circles since I first posted it. I never proved the fault which caused several crashes but what I did do was act on advice given from a friend after making his own inquires. I don't know if you are aware but some of the spektrum gear has been baned at flying clubs due to faulty battery connections. The one I know of is the dx6i the spring clips holding the AA's have been proven to cause power loss which of course leaves the rx to shut down. I did a mod to correct this possible fault and after a run of crashes I have now flown 50 times or so without incident. I cant prove the mod cures all but for a few quid it has left me with the confidence to use this equipment again. Rawtenstall models have the mod for sale at 12 quid if you don't fancy making your own. Happy flying.
  15. This one lifted off its skids for the first time in 10 years or so yesterday. I am not a helicopter expert but it seemed really stable and locked in, in comparison with others I have flown. The one reservation I have is the gyro. Its the size of half a brick and whirls when you turn it on I cant believe its as good as modern versions which one do you have on yours
  16. Just right to teach my son stop him playing with my toys.
  17. Its a large wing trainer 80". I was using a 1000kv motor on a 10.5" x 6 prop. The set up flew ok but was pulling 25amp on full throttle with 2.5lbs of thrust. All up wieght was 3lbs. The li-po was a 3s 2200. I was getting around 6 mins which works out right using Rob's formula. I purchased a 400kv motor which will take 22v and wired 2 batteries up. I have tested the set up and its using 13 amps on full which with a 12x8 prop pulls 5ibs of thrust. I have moved the batteries back into the servo bay by making a support shelf to sort the CG and the increased wieght is only 1lb. So the plane now wieghs 4ib all up, with a 5lb thrust. I worked out the flight times to be 20 mins and after flying (in between showers yesterday) I got 17 mins before the esc called fun over. I am well pleased the wind yesterday was 17mph gusts which made it hard going at times so on a calm day I can throttle back much more. It cost me 28 quid for the motor (giant cod) plus a few quid for props and connectors to wire batteries, The plane is a different beast I cant reconmend this upgrade enough.
  18. Cheers guys I have my head round it now, I agree Rick thats the safest option but I was wanting to do some research before buying set up. If I double up the battery IE 2 off 3s 2200mah i am right in assuming that i will get 4400mah therefore doubling the flight time? Or if I go 22v (the system will take it) I will use less amps. I am trying to get longer flight times then my current 6 mins
  19. Trying to get my head round working out flight times using different capacity batteries. Any body got a simple formula? save me from headache please.
  20. Tim, I have been fliting through the settings on the dx6i, whats the power setting for? two different modes are avaiable. EU 328 and US 247
  21. Know how you feel, I just wish I could prove the fault once and for all. I like the spektrum stuff but I wish I knew more about possible interference.
  22. Tim, thanks again for your time and effort, just one question more. If I connect the rx after switching on tx  the lights do not go solid every time. Is the rx working full range with the lights blinking? I dont think this is a bind problem. (slow flashing) Funny enough if I reverse the sequence and switch tx on last, it lights up solid every time. I would not be happy adopting a sequence not recondmended by Spektrum. I have racked my brains out on this and the one common issue with all incidents is where the models where flying. I have had no issues taking the stuff to another field. coincidence? Thanks for your views Peter. I will look into the charging lead although I dont think its the key with my problems. If my equipment has suffered in this manner surely the damage would be perminant ?
