Bob Cotsford
I've posted this elsewhere but I couldn't miss this site out so:I've got two bipes on the building board - or rather off it! One is a 49" Jungmeister from a Don Stothers plan, the other a CAP 56" Gladiator I'm resurrecting from a basket case. Both are at the point where I need to decide on a way of fitting the interplane struts. the Jungmeister plan shows no 6 screws cross-drilled to take 6 ba bolts, that means 8 bolts to fit and remove at the field just for the struts. The Gladiator plan shows wire loops glued to the balsa ribs, with short rubber loops bound to the strut ends. I'm not keen on the number of screw fastenings in Jungmeister method, but it would function ok. The Glad - forget it, struts held on with rubber bands on a 60 class model? So, Gentlemen - I need suggestions for a rapid fit strut fixing that will add at least a little to the structural integrity and doesn't look too far out of place. Any takers?
Mike Bell
I don't know all the details but I have heard of people using ball links. With the ball attached to the strut and the plastic socket secured to the wing the strut can be connected quickly using ball link pliers.
