Build Log for Krick Grunau Baby IIb (1/4 scale)

Hi.

I have been waiting and waiting all winter to fly my baby. I have been waiting for a north westerly so i can test fly it at Devils dyke. I have been there once this year with my whisper but it was way to windy for the baby. I can wait for the perfect conditions. It wont be long. Hopefully i will get some video footage.

Ray.

  • 2 weeks later...

I recently bought a second-hand R617FS Futaba receiver.

I haven't used it yet but have only just noticed that one of the two aerials is shorter than the other.
The longer, shrouded parts are the same, but the smaller, thinner end-parts are different; one is about 30mm ( like all of the other R617FSs I've got), but the other is only about 15mm long.
Questions;
-Does it matter?
-Should I cut the shroud back to make them both the same?
-Can (and should) I buy a replacement aerial?

Ray, you any idea why there's a No: '8' on the rudder?

Doesn't seem to fit with the other numbers.

To be honest the answer to your question is no idea.

I added the decals as per the picture on the box. It is meant to be based on a full size baby but i couldn't find any picture of the real one.

Thanks for the link Dave.
Only one of the Grunaus on the Airliners.net site seems to show any writing on the underside of the wings, and that one 'seems' to only have the number on the starboard wing.
I ask because the kit has two sets of smaller letters (for the fuselage sides) and two sets of larger letters. I'm assuming the second set of large letters is for underneath, but there's no mention of them in the instruction sheet.

I thought I'd do a series on how I put the vinyl lettering on. This is NOT a class on how it should be done; remember this is only the second plane I've ever built; it's just the way I did it and it seemed to work OK.

First cut out your letters NEATLY. If the background is transparent (as mine were) err on the outside of the letter, ie try not to cut in to the black.

Then I spaced them out EXACTLY as they should appear. The grids on a cutting mat are good for this.
