Hi everyone,

I got my plane out of the car after a not so successful day flying and when I got it out I noticed that the Elevator was slanted (the right being the lower side) I need to plane to be fixed for tommorow as tommorow will be my last chance in a few weeks. There was a crack which I 'sort of' fixed, but now this has happened. Have you got any ideas?

This is a photo of it:

Thanx

The repair will depend on the nature of construction of the plane and the mechanism of failure. Is the vertical fin held in place okay- how was the horizontal part of the tailplane usually held in place? Has it just come loose from the surrounding material or is it fixed in place nicely to the surrounding material but that's broken away from the fuselage?

If it's simply that the tailplane has come off it's mounting I usually just take the tail off, wack a load of araldite rapid in there and let it go off.

But the crack (? in the fuselage) makes me worry that the tailplane might be nicely fixed to a bit of the plane which is now at a new angle...

I fixed the crack in the fuselage the other day and that seems fine. I have put some weight onto the high part of the elevator to level it then I have put a layer of Epoxy inside the gap and then put a layer of yellow glue. So far it looks level again, i now have to wait for the glue to dry. It is constructed with balsa and light ply with a fiberglass outer shell.

tom----wait until the glue dry's to check out your repair....if it has set and things aren't the way you want(level) .... iwouldn't worry to much about it .... unless it is a top notch comp aircraft......... if it's a sports model for your club site - it will be OK.....

Its just a Thunder Tiger trainer. I'm still learning how to fly and I went to the club yesterday and there were know people there so i went again today and there weren't any people again until we were driving back up the road (bumpy as hell) when we drove past one of the club members so we followed him back down the track and spoke to him and he said to come tommorow and bring your plane and I should be able to get another lesson in and that is when I panicked because I saw that it was like that and thought that it would have to be prosponded for another day. I've just been out to check if it is drying right and so far so good. Its drying level, so should be good to go tommorow.

I'll let you know how it is tommorow morning
