Tony Bennett
just had my first unexplained crash. adjusted the aileron throw and went flying with the pl trainer.first battery perfect flight, turns were spot on, loops aok, a little bit of inverted, then came in for a very nice landing.swapped battery, took of fine.climbed away from me and turned left.i was flying level along the tree line and she suddenly dipped and recovered, wind i thought.then it did it again, so i turned to bring it back for a landing and it went into a full dive at full power.i shut the engine off and applied full up elevator and nothing, no response.dived straight into the ground at full chat.smashed the nose and broke the motor shaft clean off.re connected the battery that had fallen off in the impact and every thing was working fine, did a range check. okso i dunno what happened there, could have been interference. dont suppose i will ever know.motor is fixed, nose is glueing.will try again tomorrow once it has all set. weird. Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator
Sorry to hear about that Tony. Was this on 35MHz or 2.4? BEB PS Have you checked what your failsafe is set to do?Edited By Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator on 31/08/2011 00:10:
Tony Bennett
35 mhzfail safe is rudder slightly left, throttle off, elevator level. it was a weird one.
Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator
Hi Tony, I know this might sound daft - but have you actually tested that fail safe since the crash? I ask because I have seen instances where that is the apparent failsafe setting but because the throttle has been servo-reversed somehow the failsafe doesn't pick that up. So while you think you have throttle closed as the failsafe - what you actually have is WOT! Might be worth a check if you haven't done so. Also, as I'm sure you know, 35MHz can be subject to some mighty glitches on electric powered models. Another possibility? BEB
Tony Bennett
problem sorted.the crystal in the tx was moving and losing connection.fail safe is ok, but it does take 4 secs to go from wot to off, couple that with the fact that i was bringing it down steeply to get it on the ground as fast as posshas explained the crash to me. all repaired and flown again tonight with no probs.as a test i turned off the tx when the plane was at a good height.gentle turn to the left and power off. Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator
Ah - great. There's is nothing worse than an unexplained crash - you always have the nagging feeling "if its happened once, it could happen again!" Anyway - well done for getting to the root of it all, glad tonight's flight was good BEB
