Geoff Gardiner
Just wondered if anyone has found a cheaper alternative to the multiplex tuning powerset (for the Merlin) - it seems a bit pricey! I believe the motor needs to be 22mm diameter - has anyone found anything suitable from Giant Cod? Thanks in advance. Geoff...
Braddock, VC
No. I ended up buying the multiplex set, motor fine, esc 2nd rate. Don't half make it go though.
Robin Kearney
Hi Geoff,I had a good look for a replacement when I thought I had damaged mine and came up with this :http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=16899from Hobby King, it is the motor they sell for their Kinetic 800:http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewitem.asp?idproduct=15441Which looks like it was pretty much made from the same moulds as the Merlin. I know a couple of guys from the local slope who bought Kintecs as spares for their Merlins!r. p.s. sorry you'll have to copy and paste the links, I can't make them into proper links because the button doesn't appear when using this iPad. IDD15
HiI am using the RC Timer BC1712-13 2000KV motor in a 2S setup for mine. This may be a little "hot" for the ESC as I was getting cut out on throttle up so I'm going to try the 1600 KV. This is using the multiplex spinner and blades set. Nice motors and very cheap at under $10 and with free, but slow, shipping.www.rctimer.com is the web address. CheersIan
Geoff Gardiner
Just seen the Kinetic 800 from Hobby King, which looks very similar to the Merlin and seems better value for money.Does anyone have any experience of these? I have read that the servos are a bit weak. Geoff...
chipbutty
A couple of motors that I believe people are using in both the Kinetic 800 and Merlin. Blue Wonder hexTronik 24gram
Broken Prop
Hi Geoff Have a chat with George Worley. He offers a number of alternative power set-ups for well known models. Google 'Purple Power' to get to the 4Max website. (sorry can't do the linky thing). I have used a number of the recommended sets and found them to be very good. Happy landings! Geoff Gardiner
Thanks for all your replies. After much deliberation, I have decided to go with the Kinetic 800 from HK.Really a decision about relative costs. Just need to wait for the post man... chipbutty
I've just put my Kinetic 800 together. I'm actually a heli guy and this is my first plane. The latest update to Aerofly 5 includes the Multiplex Merlin so I've been practicing with that a little. A few useful links if you haven't seen them already.
