Interesting, though I wish the media would learn some basic aeronautical terms. Then they won't sound quite so silly talking about "wing flaps" (presumably ailerons?) and "tail rudders" (what other sort of rudder is there on a plane?)

I actually thought that there were no moving surfaces on the aircraft and the reporter has just reported that it is flapless, rather than having no moving control surfaces.

The idea is that there are no moving parts (i.e. no ailerons rudders or flaps etc). I think he's using flaps in a 'general sense meaning moving control surfaces. The prototype actually has moving control surfaces for safety - they simply 'turned them off' (or more likely just set them to neutral) then used blown air to control it instead.

 

Interestingly did anyone watch the video clip listed alongside - Iranian ekranoplan? - that would be fun to make !

That was my thought too tony.

 

I looked at the Iranian vid and somehow the aircraft seem pretty familiar but I just can't place where I've seen it before

I'm sure they could have outsourced that to one of the gods on here, for alot less..

RE- the Iranian plane-boat, isn't that very similar to the one off the Gadget show.. ??
