Hi Just about ready to fly ..just installing power set, have multicont bl-70 s-bec speed controller to which I have changed the connector to EC3 which all my batteries have ...I have now purchased two 3300mAh 3s 45-90 c discharge with 4mm banana connectors on 10 awg wires ,the query I have is... can I fit EC3s to the batteries safely? the speed controller is tucked away neatly and I don't want to disturb if I can help it (a bit awkward to get in place) ,not sure of power rating of the connectors !! Could I Make a adaptor lead IE EC3 to 4mm banana and use this between ESC and batteries? could someone point me in the right direction please

Thanks in advance Taff

Hi Taff,

Its perfectly fine to replace the connectors, i fly with EC3 connectors i really like them and they are simple to work with, a few of my batterys have come with DEANS style connectors and ive swapped them over straight away without any problems, i fly 3, 4 and 6 cell lipos from 1300mah to 5000mah without any problems. Good luck Taff , what are you flying?

As long as you don't exceed the current rating of the connectors you can fit what you like Taff.....I suspect that soldering 10AWG wire to one withoutr melting the connector body could prove challenging but you're probably better than soldering than I am.....embarrassed

These fine chaps might be able to help you with a "conversion lead" if you decided to go that way.... they will make up pretty much anything you may care to ask for.....

I might be stating the obvious but if you are replacing connectors on a battery pack, deal with one lead at a time, i.e. remove the neg 4mm bullet and solder the wire to the EC3 before starting on the pos wire.

Bare Li-Po wires touching don't 'alf make yer jump!.........smile oteeth 2

Being a LiPo beginner, I have what I'm sure will be a very simple question for you gentlemen.

I think I understand the various types of connector and charging principles, etc, and I've found commercially available adapter leads for any compatibility problems...

However, my ultimate objective is to use 2S LiPos with a voltage regulator, as a lightweight power source in small diesel powered models... I see that some of the smaller 2S LiPos (around 200 mAh) only have one JST connector, for direct plugging into an Rx or switch harness.

How are these batteries charged (with only one JST connector)?

Should the JST connector plug into my balancing board?
