Graham Ashby 123
Hello Mark, just seen your message. You're quite right, Alex did pen an article on the Galahad in the February 2005 issue (pages 72 - 76). No ailerons fitted, just a feature on the Ben Buckle kit from a traditional build point of view. He did allude to an aileron wing version in the article but we haven't published anything since.
Matt Watts
And are you hoping to/thinking of?
Patmac
I built a Mercury original but modified with ailerons around 35 years ago.IIRC the dihedral was greatly reduced to around 2" each wing & the incidence was also reduced by half. Ailerons were full span 1.5" or 2" TE stock strip hinged on a 1/4" false TE & operated via torque rods. The ailerons were recessed into the wing outline. The rest of the model was more or less as per plan & the all parts nylon covered. Power was a Fox 25. A couple of guys I flew with at the time had similarly modded Galahads powered by OS 15s - the old loop scavenged version of course. They all flew beautifully, mine was predictably more spritely but the OS15 ones were adequately powered with better engine reliability.
