bouncebounce crunch Posted November 28, 2012 Share Posted November 28, 2012 Models that are unmanned are traveling vast distances nowdays, helping in aid assistance and land surveys, some are used for good others for harm, but those records could easily be broken with computer technology of today. Pilot fatigue would be the weakest link now. or ran out of biscuits and Tea. I would like to see a few more articles from Mr Whittaker if he had any spare time. Martin Harris - Moderator Posted November 28, 2012 Share Posted November 28, 2012 The most impressive thing about the Atlantic crossing for me was that it was recognisbly a "proper" balsa/ply model aircraft and not something particularly exotic. It also came in uder the 5 Kg limit specified by the FAI for record attempts! This site gives some detailed info - until I looked at it I hadn't realised that the fuel used was a rather interesting variation on what we would use in the engine and it used spark ignition.
