david james 1
Altho I have a couple of electric gliders, this is my first foray into electric power. I had the maiden flight yesterday using the old 3S 3000mah batteries from the gliders. I think I need to buy a couple of new ones. If I bought some 4S, I could use them in a warbird, which is my next ambition. Do you think these would be likely to overpower the W4 or burn out the ESC? WolstonFlyer
Yes I think 4S will make the motor draw too much current and burn out the ESC and perhaps even the motor. You would have to fit a smaller prop to reduce the current draw for the motor's RPM at the higher voltage.I have seen several WOT4 Foam-e ESC's go up in smoke on 3S because the supplied ESC can be of varying quality and very marginal even though it is supposed to be rated at 40A.I have fitted a Hobbyking 60A Plush ESC to my WOT4 and it hardly gets warm. Johnny Kirkham
David check the writing on the ESC .......in my wot4 it says on the ESC 2-3 cell hope this helps
Allan Bowker
David This reminds me a little of this thread where I pointed Johnny Kirkham to the WOT4 Foam-e thread, specifically to Simon Chambers posting on page 21 talking about fitting a 4S to his WOT. It seems that adding too much power to this model doesn't end well.
Stephen Horan
Would a 2S 2200 be ok to put into the Foam-E Wot4/Acro Wot because I have a couple hanging around, or would it be lacking power??? Thanks.
