Ben Kelly
Hi, I have been flying now for a couple of years and have only bought ARTF models which to my delight have been very good quality (all Seagull models), but now i want to have a go at actually building a model from a kit. I would like some suggestions in a kit that is not too difficult to build as its my first go at it and i would like to put a .25 - .30 size engine in it. Also something relatively cheap would be great. Many Thanks. Ben
David Ashby - Moderator
What do you fancy Ben - Vintage, sport, scale semi-scale? Have you had a look at Sig kits? 'Cheap' can be misleading as the chances are that building from a traditional kit will prove more expensive than an ARTF model - especially once you've bought all the bits. Building from a plan could be cheaper. Either way, at least you can buy bits as and when you need them.
Ben Kelly
Thanks David, after posting this i realised that it was going to be a bit more expensive that an ARTF due to having to buy the extras but like you say i can buy it as and when. I looked around and i narrowed it down to the the Airsail Volksplane from Als Hobbies and the Galaxy Models Wizard. They are both a decent size and arn't mega expensive. I have now just got to decide which one i like best haha.
David Ashby - Moderator
The Wizard flies very well - a good all-round sportster and a very popular model going back a few years.
Stephen Bennett
Ben,Before you jump in with the Galazy kit take a look at http://stevensaero.com/ or http://www.mountainmodels.com/ both these companies supply superb laser cut kits.If you fancy something more scale like try http://www.parkscalemodels.com/shop/ . I know these are all American kits, but the quality is exceptional. What i can say is that they all build into super flying models and if you would like to purchase from within the UK contact John Rutter @ http://www.micronradiocontrol.co.uk/ who will happily source you any of the above kits.Good luck in your personal build. Steve.PS Try http://www.philipnoel.co.uk/index.htm for really good UK kits
Alex Carline
Hey guys, come across this forum whilst researching kits. The reason I'm looking for a kit for a university project to show aerodynamics and CoG, aswell as construction etc. I figured this would be a good way of showing this. i am however struggling to find something suitable. Ideally I'm looking for something on the smaller scale but also something that wouldn't be so difficult to fly. There is a small group of us and a couple of us have experience flying rc planes. Any help in suitable models would be great. Thanks in advanceAlex
