Trevor Chadwick
Could anyone advise me please whether or not a Sprektrum DX7 transmitter from America is legal in England, or not ? I've tried contacting the BMFA to see if the insurance is still valid, but could not get a reply. If not legal, I'll have to buy a new set (it's a good time to buy, I suppose, with the two for one receiver offer...)Very many thanks in advance for any advice. Tim Mackey
Not legal, as the maximum power output is ten times greater than allowed in UK.
Brian Lambert
Try speaking to horizon or whatever thay are called these days, I am sure it is only a firmware setting that could be reprogramed.Let us know how you get on.Brian
Tim Mackey
I am not sure about this but it probably can be done simply - however they are sure to charge you for it !..heres a bulletin from HH stating their current position.Europe Versus USA spekky power

Brian Lambert
Nice one Timbo, that seems to cover it.Eric, I haven't looked inside one but I suspect that there won't be anything to tweek and if there is it will be so small that I wouldn't be able to see it. Trevor Chadwick
Wow, that was a fast resolution to my problem ! Many thanks to all who replied. Rather than get the transmitter modified by Horizon, I think I'll buy a new outfit and take advantage of the current offer by buying two extra receivers and getting two free.Cheers, Trevor
Tim Mackey
Good offer that...but I am not buying another DX7 just yet
flytilbroke
Good advice given. I looked at the Spectrum offer,,,, I did not like the information re reception range of the receiver supplied with the deal.
Tim Mackey
Which receiver in particular ftb ? The only one we have seen reported alleged problems of short range with is the "superlight" 6channel full range AR6200 . I have none of these, but do have 12 x AR7000s ( 7 channel ) and they have all been superb. I also have 2 x of the so called park range receivers ( 6100 / 6100E ) and only use them at short range as they are small models. Having said that, one is in my sabre EDF and I fly that a pretty long way off with no problem. The other 2 x "park fly" range ones I have are the AR6000s and these are in two 60" slope soarers, both of which fly a LONG way out and up - almost to the point of being out of sight, and again, never had problem at all. As far I as know, the 2 "free" recievers will be of the same model as the 2 x bought. So if you get say the DX7 and buy two more AR7000s ( which are excellent ) you get two "free" AR7000s .....which I will gladly buy off you for a fair price
John Wheater
The U.S. Spektums have EC stickers on them, doesn't that mean they are OK for European use?
Nicholas Booth
I think their stance is that they might have been incorrectly badged as being EC approved hence the need to have Horizon UK take a look at them. A guy at my club had his done recently as he brought his from a recent trip to the states. Said it took them five minutes so probably something very easy to do but still best to let them do it.
