fly boy3
Hi all, having covered my Skyways Hawk 70 with BP, am very pleased with the result so far. Have the following concerns re extra weight. 1, preparation with thinned PVA, 2, paint, 3, fuel proofing. Is there any way to reduce the onset of weight, or am I worrying too much. Would the relatively large wing are cope. ? Thanks
Toni Reynaud
I covered my Hercules and Hurricane with brown paper and painted them with B&Q matchpot colours. No problems with weight. Both flew well. http://www.modelflying.co.uk/forums/postings.asp?th=24182 http://www.modelflying.co.uk/forums/postings.asp?th=34350
stu knowles
I have used BP / pva quite a few times and really rate it for all sheet models. Most of the weight applied is in the water based PVA , which evaporates as it dries. paint inc emulsion use only thin coats. Weight can quickly mount up by applying too much paint. fuel proofer. I use solar tex clear coat and use as much as is necessary. Touch wood, most of my models die of old age - which is accelerated alarmingly if the wood starts to get oil soaked. it works for me but I'm sure that there are other ways stu k
fly boy3
Thanks Tony and Stu, thin seems to be the way to go. I'm not talking scale type perfection here LoL, Does the Clearcote come as a spray, as this should be thinner than a brush ? Cheers
