Hi everyone, I have just ordered the re-released kit of the Bearcat from SLEC. I had one of the original Balsacraft ones from ye olden days of Speed 600s and Sub C cells. As i understand it they have updated it for the modern kit we have available, so I expect it will get my 3S 2600 or 3000 packs now. I can't have it until my birthday (mid Nov) but I will 'check' its ok when it arrives

My kit arrived yesterday. I thought I should 'check' it <img src=" class="smiley" src="http://www.rcmf.co.uk/4um/Smileys/live/wink.gif" title="Wink" /> before my wife wraps it up for my birthday next week. I took a quick pic of the contents. I'm not sure but it looks like the battery may still go in through the wing, but I cant confirm that as yet.

Here is my progress so far. Wing going together, ready for the upper wing skins after fitting the servo extensions. Been a while since I built a kit, but going fine so far. The Super-phatic glue works well, but a bit of thin cyano would help in places.

The motor has arrived. I have gone for a HET Typhoon Xtreme 3814 1070kv, which looks very similar to the OS motor they tried. I also have a Hobbywing 40A controller. It will probably turn a 11x7 e prop and my 3S 2600 packs, although if the 3000 packs work better they will go in.
I have the slightly bigger version of the motor in my Ripmax Mustang on the same prop. A good 5mm shaft and what looks like good build quality are worh a few extra quid compared to another motor I have.

Latest progress. I dont get much chance to have a good go at it, so its time grabbed here and there.

I made a slight faux pas by gluing the motor mount plate in upside down, resulting in a job to rectify it....

I think I will go with the dark blue easycoat to finish, I am not a great fan of sanding and glassing it will mean lots of that!

I was thinking of doing a black and white checker on the cowling to help orientation, but I'm not sure of the best technique to make it as easy as possible. Any ideas welcomed

My Bearcat is now basically finished. It had its first two flights today, the first of which was a bit fraught as it climbed alarmingly! I think it was a lack of downthrust, needing all of the available down trim. The elevator was pretty sensitive too, so I switched in the rates. Second flight was much better, the cg was good and the balance of controls much better. The stall is a straight ahead mush, and the landing into a moderate breeze easy with a tiny bit of power. With a few little tweaks it will be really good, very pleased

Looks great Stuey. yes I was tempted to buy one of these at the SLEC stall at the Blackbushe model show a few weeks ago. Seeing your one looking so nice makes me think I should get one! Glad it survived first flight, well done.
