Trevor Crook
Percy, I can trump your £20 with our other car - Fiat 500 twinair petrol, £0! However, our third(!) car, which we half own with our son, is a 17 year-old MX-5, which makes up for it at £230. You can fit a couple of small models in it, though. Trevor Crook
There's more to the Twinair engine than zero VED. It's a twin cylinder turbo 875cc developing 85bhp, which makes the sub-tonne 500 accelerate quite briskly. Much of the throttle control is achieved by electro-hydraulic inlet valve timing and lift variation, which reduces pumping losses and gives good economy if driven gently. An interesting engine then, and I reckon the body stands out from the eurobox crowd. Clarkson once said it was the best engine in the world, and he'll punch you if you argue!
