Dave Bran
Phoenix - How to use it with Windows 10!! Parking this here for new PC buyers. A new clean Windows 10 PC does NOT have DirectX 9 files. (one upgraded from a previous Win will have them left on the system after upgrade to Win 10, so Phoenix should work without the below). Phoenix (at present) MUST have DirectX9. You CAN resolve this for a new clean PC with Win10 installed as follows, and this will not overwrite or downgrade your current DirectX 11 installation (if this exists on your computer) - it will only update the DirectX 9 components. To update or install your DirectX 9 components do the following: - Download the latest DirectX 9 update from the following link to your Windows Desktop: **LINK** - Once downloaded, run the downloaded file from your Desktop and extract the compressed files somewhere you can later delete them when not needed, say into a "C:/TEMP" folder. - Once the files have been extracted, navigate to your "C:/TEMP" folder (or whatever) and locate and run the "DXSETUP.exe" file inside. - Follow the on screen instructions to apply the update. What you are doing is downloading and running the complete MS Runtime 2010 for DirectX, which will update or add files as needed. Worked for me on a new PC with only DX11, Phoenix runs well, but usual disclaimers.................. Will of course help ANY programme that needs DX9 on a new PC with only DX11. David P Williams
I just installed to my new windows 10 PC from my Phoenix 4 cd and left the box marked "Install DirectX 9" ticked, and it all worked fine. It's auto-updated itself to Version 5 now.
John F
DX11 is backwards compatible with DX9 so you shouldn't have any issues anyway.
David P Williams
Er - well it doesn't work. First attempt to load, I unticked the "load DirectX9" box. Phoenix wouldn't start up - just gave lots of error messages about missing .dlls. Re-installed with the box ticked and all OK.
Ian Deeley
I didn't have any luck with the link in the first article in this thread, but a bit more Googling came up with this link, https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109 after a download & install, my Phoenix install is running perfectly on Win 10.
