What size hinges

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I have a seagull Edge 540 and need to replace the elevator hinges. I've already had to replace the aileron hinges as the supplied CA hinges snapped. Fortunately I noticed on a pre flight check. Now I've noticed that the elevator hinges are snapping.

Why would this happen? Plane is only 1 year old.

So my question is what size Robart hinges should I use. I'm unsure what size I used on the ailerons but fell they may to to big for the elevator?

Any suggestions?

  • Wingspan - 77.5ins (197cm)
  • Wing area - 1023 sq.ins (66 sq.dm)
  • Suits - 120-160 2-stroke. (180 4-Stroke)
  • Factory covered with Oracover
  • Length - 71.0ins (179.0cm)
  • Approx flying weight - 10.6-13lb (4.8-5.8kg)
  • Servos - 6 x 6.5kg high powered
  • Can't say I fly it that hard, I have a sneaky feeling I used too much ca when putting them in and it made them too brittle?

I only use kavan and robart hinges these days. I've had several sets of these CA hinges fail on various types of aircraft in the past and its because the CA goes brittle through vibration. The first thing I do with IC artf models is throw the hinges away they are a waste of time.
