robert chamberlain
I am dusting off an old Bird of Time ( 3 Meter) I built many years ago and am planning on replacing the old " Royal" brand servos. Can't find any source of these or what their specs were so am looking for some Hitec units. For rudder/aileron what would be a good torque to look for? Thanks,--Bob C in Kansas
Braddock, VC
These? http://www.servodatabase.com/servo/hitec/hs-85mg They were once the go to servos for many sailplanes.
John Lee
Bob, with a sailplane of this type the specification of the servos is entirely none critical. We used to fly 4 meter rudder elevator gliders in the 70's (eg Wildflecken) on Futaba 128 Servos of 33oz-in (2.4kg-cm) with no trouble whatsoever. The ARF BOT manual recommends 15oz-in or better. I'd suggest measuring the Royal servos & picking Hitecs of a similar physical size for ease of installation. Servodatabase is a good source for comparisons.
