Dom (Essential RC)
Continuing E-Flite's success with it's big Carbon-Z T-28 they've followed up with another big 6S powered scale "foamy" and released this awesome looking P2 Prometheus. Unbox, assemble and highlights of my first 2 flights today.
Tim Cheal
Hi Guys>> I am thinking of buying one of these, has anybody got one that can comment on the durability and performance? >> I fly from grass strips and am particularly interested in the undercarriage resilience. I would also like to extend my aerobatic repertoire, and I know a pattern aerobatic plane may be better; I did have a Groovy 50 3A that I enjoyed, but was looking for something a bit different.>> Comments gratefully received.>> Tim>>
Dom (Essential RC)
I fly the P2 from grass and it's more than up to the job even on my bumpy local strip. I did have a very bad landing/crash when getting too adventurous and it bent one leg badly but that saved me from damaging the fuselage badly. Fortunatley with E-flite models you can get spares easily. £25 for the undercarriage including wheels and spats and the fuselage foam insert seems a good deal to me. Tim Cheal
Thanks Dom I should of course have credited your excellent video, which is most informative and realised that you had more experience than the initial video. Have you flown it in any decent wind yet (say 15mph)? Tim
Dom (Essential RC)
From memory the day I flew those initial few flights on was a bit gusty at about 10-15mph. Those conditions are fine for regular general aerobatics but not for low 3D unless it's constant or you're a very good pilot or you are just lucky (like me on that occasion). The AS3X gyro is good but it doesn't cancel out every gust as you can see in the vid. It's a great biplane but if you want to 3D it you need to be very quick on the sticks but still great for a A cert pilot who wants to fly regular aerobatics and take a B cert. Tim Cheal
Thanks Dom. Actually passed my B on Friday(!) so looking to extend my aerobatics a bit more.
Dom (Essential RC)
Congrats on that Tim! So many people don't do it. If memory serves me correctly it's just a more accurate A cert with a couple more challenging things thrown in (e.g. axial double rolls). Well worth the effort in my opinion.
