Colin Anderson
Is there any way to switch off the model location beep oo 4Max's PP-TESC60AU esc? After approximately 2 minutes of zero throttle I get a beep every 20 seconds. I'm pretty sure my esc didn't exhibit this behaviour previously, but for some reason it does now. As I don't need this feature where I fly, is it possible to program it out? Also, my motor doesn't start until the throttle is at 84%, although it can be backed down to 87% before it again stops. Is this normal? And yes, I have programmed it via the TX. I believe there is a programming card for this esc, but I've no idea what they really are and how you use one. Are they stand alone or do you have to use a computer?
Denis Watkins
Setting the timing mode The factory default setting is high. • Switch “on” the transmitter and move the stick to “full throttle” (highest position); • Connect the main power pack to ESC (For ESC without BEC, switch on the power to receiver); • Wait 5 seconds, you will hear 4 beep • Wait 5 seconds, you will hear 5 “Single Beeps” or 5 “double Beeps” • Swiftly move the throttle stick to position “close” (lowest position); • The brake setting has now been saved. Note: If you want to change the timing mode again or set brake mode, disconnect the motor battery pack and then repeat the procedure. Programming using the Prog-Card • Remove Propeller. • Place the black jumpers in the required positions on the programming card. • Plug servo type connector on the ESC in to the Prog Card (top right). • Connect the ESC to your battery. • The ESC will make the motor “beep” once or twice which indicates your settings have been saved. • Disconnect the battery from the ESC. • Disconnect the Prog-Card. • Plug JR connector (part of ESC) in to the throttle channel on your receiver. • Switch on the transmitter. • Put the throttle stick at the lowest position. • Connect the power pack to the ESC. (For ESC without BEC, switch on the power to the receiver.) • 1“single beep” (Brake is on) or 2 “single beeps” (Brake is off) will be heard. (Note: If you do not hear “beeps”, please disconnect the battery & ESC. Wait for 5 seconds and repeat the connection.) • The ESC is now ready for flight. Denis Watkins
Factory default settings • Brake off. • Timing: high; for outrunner motors and motors with more than 6 poles. • Throttle curve: linear. • Battery type: Li-ion/Li-Polymer battery. • Cut-off voltage: cut-off voltage low. (2.7V for Li-xx battery). • Cut-off type: cut-off soft, reduces the power when the voltage drops to the cut-off voltage. Programming by transmitter A: Normal Start-Up 1. Switch on the transmitter. 2. Move the throttle stick to the lowest position. 3. Connect the main power pack to ESC (For ESC without BEC, switch on the power to receiver first.) 4. 1 “single beeps” (Brake is on) or 2 “single beeps” (Brake is off) will be heard. 5. (Note: If you do not hear “beeps”, please disconnect the battery from the ESC and wait for 5 seconds and repeat the connection.) 6. The ESC is now ready for flight. B: Programming and Start-Up 1. Setting the Brake: (Note: Factory Default Setting: Brake Off) 2. How to change the Brake 3. Switch “on” the transmitter and move the stick to “full throttle” (highest position) 4. Connect the main power pack to ESC (For ESC without BEC, switch on the power to receiver) 5. Wait 5 seconds, you will hear 4 beeps 6. Move the throttle stick to the lowest position. 7. After moving you will hear 1 “beeps” that means the brake is on; or 2 “beeps” that means the brake is off; Now the brake setting is saved Note: If you want to change the brake again or set timing mode, disconnect the motor battery pack and then repeat the procedure. For your safety always remove the propeller or physically restrain the model when making any changes to the programming of the ESC.
Colin Anderson
Thanks for that, Denis, particularly about using a programming card. Do I take it that the model location beeps, every 20 seconds, can't be turned off, then?
Denis Watkins
As you say Colin, when you choose your set up from the card the lost model alarm can be left out
Colin Anderson
Thanks, Denis, I think I'll have to order a card from 4Max. I had a look on their site; turning off the model location feature isn't listed in the options - but they're cheap, so it can't hurt to have one. 😊
