Edward Bewes
Hi Can some one tell me in very simple language that the three wires are for that come out of a ESC, and can I used a ESC 30a brushless one with a graupner speed 400 7,2v brushed motor. They are for a Jp-Si Flying Wing.
Chris Bott - Moderator
Hi Edward and welcome to the forum. I'm afraid the answer is a simple no they won't work together. You need either a brush less motor to go with your ESC or a "brushed" ESC to go with your motor.
Piers Bowlan
Welcome to the forum Edward. The old Graupner Speed 400 motors have long since had their day although their cheap price and availability made them attractive at a time when there were few alternatives around. However their poor performance and short life span meant they rapidly disappeared with the advent of cheap, powerful and light brushless motors. Today the choice of size and quality of BL motors means that there is a motor to suit every possible application, including your flying wing. The three wires from your ESC connect to the three wires from any brushless motor. Should the motor run in the wrong direction reversing any two of the three wires will reverse the motor direction. I only mention this incase you find that your motor rotates in the wrong direction and you are tempted to reverse the battery connection. NO! This will instantly 'fry' your ESC which will get very hot and emit acrid smoke!
