Jonathan Lewzey
Has anyone flown the Ocelot from scalegliders?
Slopetrashuk
Yep. Fast and fun. As good as any other 60" V tail mouldie but mostly far cheaper.Don't skimp on the servo's. The Ocelot can get a lick on.Andy
Jonathan Lewzey
Cheers Andy,Would Hitec MGs be ok? After discovering the ocelot by accident, i now think its a better option than the opus which is probably too expensive for my budget! And would the ocelot make a good first mouldie? (i fly a limit X, stargazer, funjet (power) and an AT6 Texan)Jon
Slopetrashuk
I always use MG servos on the slope if I can get them in. Don't remember what fits in the Ocelot. Just pay for decent centering and good servo arms and you'll be fine.lots of people go for a 60" as their first mouldie. Me too ( a shooting star many moons ago).Take an Ocelot, out in a blow, add a good hill like the Bwlch, a passing thermal, a f3f timer and a decent set of thumbs and this is what can happen: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=64RHioX1KlU
Jonathan Lewzey
I've tended to go modestly priced on servos, but i've recently noticed how good servos can make the model easier to fly (hence the decision to fit 5475 digis in my funtana) so i'll see which of the hitecs is the right size. i actually flew a shooting star belonging to a clubmate recently and found it remarkably easy to fly.The ad on soaring USA states that the 37.60 run is "the current F3F world record". Surely not anymore?
Slopetrashuk
It's the fastest 60" run anyone can remember. The world record is 27.xx
Tom Satinet
not sure how it's cheaper? thinner maybe. My mate has one and we call it the paper plane. the glass one is the most fragile plane i have ever encountered to be honest. flies great, no doubt, but paper thin and very easy to break (hanger rash a major issue)
Jonathan Lewzey
No matter, i take great care of all my planes and they all have bubble-wrap wing bags. In this respect, is it better to go for the carbon version or is it significantly heavier?
Tom Satinet
I haven't seen a carbon one, to be honest mate. the ocelot flies really well. I would just make sure you are confident you can land it accurately. They are not weak in the sense they can't take flight loads. As Andy says they are very quick, but I feel rather hard to live with when not flying.
Tom Satinet
oh they are cheap at £155, they used to be 200. the carbon ocellot at £260 ish isn't that cheap though. There are loads of other 60s to consider. personally i would choose the Bird, but no denying the ocelot flies well and looks nice.
Jonathan Lewzey
Landings happen to be one of my specialities, even in tight spots. I think the 4 servo wing, which i intend to go for, will make this even easier. I suppose even if the materials aren't very strong, its often the way they are put together that matters and gives structural strength. As for storage, i'll have to be even more careful than usual! Jonathan Lewzey
just wondering if anyone in the Beds, Bucks, Herts and surrounding counties has one I could have a look at before commiting cashJonathan
Tom Satinet
hmm. get some crepe paper and wrap it round a couple of bits of wood spars to get a nice tension and you are in the right "ball park"
Slopetrashuk
You really should learn to land Tom......
Tom Satinet
i have. I just haven't "learnt" to be able to live with planes that are impossible not to hanger rash.
Slopetrashuk
Are you really that clumsy?I thought Zim and the lads were joking!

Keith Lewzey
As Jonathan said above, has anybody in the Herts, Beds, Bucks area got an Ocelot we could have a pre purchase nose at? We are quite happy to travel within a reasonable radius of the Dunstable area.Hope to hear from somebody here soon. Keith
